Thumbs up Tale Of A Whale

Via: http://scienceblogs.com/deepseanews/...size_whale.php

Check this out. It's cool, because to scroll (or grab) either way gives you a sense of the whale's size. Very nice idea and for a good cause.

Just for the record, since ToSeek linked to it directly, could those poor schlubs gush any more over a bloody whale simulation?

If they could sound any more pathetic, I'd actually have to suppress the urge to throat punch them on sight...

Geesh, I haven't posted much and then to be toseeked on top of that! ToSeek, what is it doing in Babbling? Well, see, lefthanded people think almost alike.

Doodler, what are you talking about - what schlubs? Did you read the article that goes to the flash? I think it's a cool idea and one in which I haven't seen. Plus it's to help bring awareness to the whale's plight.

Ahem...you play video games, no?

But!!
This gives me a stable image of what's in the link (link locks machine).
Hmm, doesn't look like a gray whale now that I can make a direct comparism.

Not sure what you mean there Doodles, ok the 'best website' of the year bit is gastly gushing, but the rest seems alright.
Particularly the bit about barnacles & other invertebrates, the real things ain't too umblemished cose up.
Which make me think it is CGI, & I'm starting to wonder if it is a model of just a generic whale rather than a blue whale as claimed.

I love the simulation, believe me, and I understand the situation with the whales, but could they do so in a slightly less pleading manner? Its utterly amazing to me how someone could impart so effectively the image of a grovelling speaker into a paragraph of text.

I'm hardly alone in that. In fact, I've had the privilege of meeting a couple BAUT members in EVE Online. Careful where you aim those stones, Mel.

Not to belabor this, but are you talking about this paragraph in the article?

Could it be that you're confusing "enthusiasm" and "urgency" with "grovelling"? Sometimes being excited sounds that way. Exclamation points do that, too. You know who uses a lot of exclamation points - Richard Feynman. I noticed that in one of his books. It's like someone's happy! Enthused! Yeah!

Oh, I'm well aware of the gaming community around here; if I said something negative TheBlackCat might sic that red-eyed evil-looking thing on me, and no way do I want to mess with him. Plus he's darn smart. I was simply saying "to each his own" when it comes to fun/educational animations.

And do you really expect me to know what "EVE online" is? Look, I used to have Half Life on my PC (a guy who lived with me played it), but I deleted it, because killing those bugs got addictive. No siree, it's bad enough that being online is addictive! Touche.

Whale's are advanced creatures. Didn't anyone see Star Trek IV?
