Agreed, and have just taken the Guardian to task about a statement they make regarding Nikolai Tesla's original efforts in this field:

I am also a little concerned that the general public should ever by exposed to energised coils, easy enough to discharge them, probably even accidentally. |

I saw the news item. For people who cannot cope
with the usual spagettii of leads from many gadgets. And a figure was given of 96% efficient. Like a bad transformer. Will the folk who would buy such gear be the same folk who complain about Electricity cables overhead? And does a metal sided item like a fridge short the radiating panel? So many questions about a naff idea but some knowledgable people were interviewed. Looks like we need those turbines and their few percent contribution to power this coming waste ![]() |

This sounds like something I was discussing a short while ago about using an oscillating magnetic field to charge electrical components down an oil well.
The big problem was we're talking miles of distance between the wellhead and the downhole component. Also deviation will mean the metal production tubing will curve away so the component is out of line of sight.

Tesla had it right. Nevelle Marzwell of JPL, (friend of Gene Meyers of http://www.spaceislandgroup.com ) wants a way to beam power directly from space to articles on the ground.
I seem to remember the HAM community in an uproar over transmitting data over electrical lines...Maybe all this will be tried out on Moonbases first to reduce infrastructure. |

Magnetic resonance? I thought any osciallting magnetic field had to be coupled with an oscillating electric field (the coupled behavior is how they can propogate in the first place). So basically, you're microwaving your room, and you have devices that can pick up on the power.
I don't see how this is fundamentally different from broadcasting any other sort of EM.

They don't mention frequency. Normal power is 60Hz, AM radio is 500-1600KHz, FM is 80-120MHz, microwaves are GHz. I heard some military aircraft use 400Hz for powering their electric motors to keep them small and light.
