A reminder of the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change as you won't probably find it in the regular news media.
A bit of background: Quote:

Oh yes, that conference. I'll just quote verbatim from their letter of invitation:
"The purpose of the conference is to generate international media attention to the fact that many scientists believe forecasts of rapid warming and catastrophic events are not supported by sound science, and that expensive campaigns to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are not necessary or cost-effective." Unlike a normal scientific conference they have no independant scientific panel to select speakers. Instead the speakers are chosen by the financial backers of the conference. On the bright side speakers get $1,000 each as opposed to nothing at a normal conference, so it's not all bad news. |

Oh yes, the meeting is in 2 weeks, and as of a week ago they were still listing 35 "Possible titles for panels".
Meanwhile, at the AAAS AGM that just wrapped up in Boston this morning, the agenda included two symposia with the following titles: "The Other Carbon Dioxide Problem: Ocean Acidification" and "Ocean Acidification and Carbon—Climate Connections: Lessons from the Geologic Past" Well, I see the Heartland Institute's take on that topic is that it is real, and their solution is to dump lime into the oceans. How much? And, oddly, that article seems to imply that Heartland, its publisher and the sponsor of the convention, agrees that global warming is occuring, at least as of December 1, 2007. Weird. |
