One time in the Navy some squadron mates and I were unwittingly "romancing the Darwin Awards" out of boredom and curiosity and accidently caused a serious implosion. But I'll put that in the Sea Story thread as to not highjack this one.

Actually, come to think of it, the time I noticed the altitude the most was when I was on vacation in Hawaii. After nearly 2 weeks there (and after acclimatizing to sea level rather thoroughly), we went up Mauna Kea, some 13 thousand and change (from sea level, in a couple hours). I noticed that, even with relatively little exertion at the top (it was quite a bit more noticeable than 14,300 is when I start from 6000, even when I hiked to get to the 14,300 and used a car up Mauna Kea).
