Default Who on BAUT works in the 'space sciences'? (Career related questions)

Hello everybody,

I recently finished my 3 years of undergraduate study in BSc (Physics) and am currently completing my Physics Honours degree ('Honors' in America I suppose - I am from downunder). I expect to be finished with Honours either this time next year or end of next year.

My physics related interests include: astronomy, remote sensing, isotope sciences, data/signal reduction/interpretation.

As a person who has never had a full time job before I ask:

* Who on BAUT works in a space science area? What area are you in?
* What sorts of jobs did you do prior to this?
* What academic qualifications do you hold?
* Side question: Also does the area you complete your Masters/PhD in have to be strictly related to such an area as space sciences?
* How did you 'break into' the field?
* What can I do to become more employable in this field?
* Future demand??

Two other questions:
* Just as a question out of pure curiosity who here has completed or is completing a Masters degree or PhD and what was the research in?
* If you have completed a physics undergraduate degree what are you doing with yourself now?

I realise that essentially all research positions will require a PhD qualification and I will decide whether I wish to do a PhD at a later date (after completing honours).

Which areas of the space sciences can I tackle? The majority of the area is electronics/engineering and computing based which isn't exactly in my favour. This is also why I am asking the last question above.
"If you have completed a physics undergraduate degree what are you doing with yourself now?"

Just trying to 'get out there' and see what real people on BAUT have done.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move, moderators/admins!

Thanks for your time.
All the best.

Gosh, Snowman, sorry to see your post ophaned as it is.

It seems that most BUATers are informed and/or curious amateurs such as myself (high school earth/space science teacher).

Perhaps a visit to Science Blogs or Cosmic Variance where some dyed-in-the-wool hardcore scientists hang out might give you a better response to your question.

Good luck.

There's gotta be a bunch of space science folks here.

I do work for a NASA contractor, but I don't do any space science. I am a thermal design engineering.

I should add that we do have a group of people who analyze moon rocks and another company does life science work, if that's what you wondering about.

I am currently a student in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Colorado, if that counts...
