Default Louisiana's Creation Friendly Bill

The Governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal, has a bill on his desk awaiting his signature. He is likely to sign it. The bill is another one of those "creationists friendly" bills geared towards allowing non-science into the science classrooms.

I know politics is a no-no here, but exceptions are allowed for science related issues and I think this qualifies. The LA Coalition for Science has a story about it on their webpage here. Warning: The link does call for some political activism. In this case I feel it is appropriate for BAUT because it is an anti-science bill.

Moderators, feel free to yell at me if I'm wrong

So he does. I now come here first and only get to the BA's blog and UT site at the end of my session. Sometimes I only visit them every few days or so.

It's all the fault of that new banner, I don't maintain separate links anymore.

Just wanted to say that I for one support the idea of alerting BAUTians to sad developments like this. Perhaps the permanent injunction against politics can be amended to include an exception encouraging BAUTians to combat political movements which are nakedly anti-science and anti-education in their intent.

Some useful pro-science sites:
  • the blog of Bob Park (Physics, University of Maryland, College Park), often tracks public policy issues involving science,
  • New Mexicans for Science and Reason (NMSR) tracks antiscience legislation at the state and local level in the Southern United States, among other issues,
  • Pharyngula, the outspoken blog of P. Z. Myers (Biology, University of Minnesota, Morris), tracks--- and mocks--- the "creationist" movement nationally, so a good place to check that you haven't missed anything, and also for a chuckle.

Unless there is a new entry at Banned poster, BABblog is my first stop!

ETA: Chris, that is one of the reasons why I go to the BA's page first and often. He can and does post things there and we can discuss them there, that we cannot discuss here
