I would say that the chance of there being life in the Andromeda galaxy is the probably about the same as the chance that there is life elsewhere in our galaxy (besides Earth). I don't know what those odds are however, and have no data to come up with a number.

It will get a lot closer to us--in the far far future--so travel there might not be impossible.

It is natural to wonder about what's going on over in andromeda given that it is the fartherest object that can be seen with the naked eye and the closest large galaxy. I would guess that there are many planetery systems in this massive spiral. I think it would be really hard to assess their properties with current or forseeable technologies. I bet that there is something alive in andromeda that has at least seen the Milky Way galaxy in their sky or perhaps has even asked about whether or not there are other beings in our galaxy.

You can bet they wouldn't give it a goofy name like 'Milky Way'.

Since they would not see us as a 'way' they would probably prefer the name 'Milky Dot'.

Or, based on what M31 looks like on a dark, clear night, the "Milky Fuzzball", said fuzzball being elliptical in form.

Then there's the Hungarian version of M31, Andromeda321.
