Default The impact on Society and Religion should life be found.

If we find life or signs of life what would happen with Society and Religion? I'd imagine a lot of religious people would deny it, while everyone else accepts it. Of course there would be conspiracy abound. When the question of "are we alone?" is finally answered what will happen? I know one day we'll hear that we're not, and I'll be happy to know that we're not alone, along with many others. Biggest news in history no doubt. Just thinking about it feels weird to me.

Why would it be any different than 10 years ago?

CNN: Ancient meteorite may point to life on Mars -- 'Biggest discovery in the history of science'

Once again, they'd watch the press conference, and the talking-head analysts. Then the next day, they'd go back to their jobs and forget about it.

Please be very careful here. Lucretia, you are new, so I suggest taking a look at the rules about politics and religion. This topic is in the margin because it IS about astronomy and spaceflight to some degree, but you are making vague generalizations about how all people of all faiths will respond to an event, and comparing it to how atheists and non-practicing people will respond. Can you see ways that this discussion could quickly become offensive to some?

I'm closing the thread, but will open it if someone PMs me with a good idea on this topic that should be posted.
