Thanks mugaliens. Wish I could spend as much time on it as I spend on BAUT...

Seriously nice bike! I long for the day when riding them resulted in no thought or concept whatsoever of any potential for serious injury...

LoL, Ok, so I'm a scardycat these days. Back then I was indestructable, and demonstrated this fact by riding into a tree at 65 mph (accidentally) with no injury, jumpping off 73 foot cliffs, etc.

These days I'm a bit more fragile.

    Still - Seriously nice bike!

Yep - have played some GURPS (some near-future cyber punk; some werewolf vs vampire in modern age stuff, ...) but really I much prefer the "sort-of-middle-ages plus magic" type of setting for RPGs, so always end up coming back to D&D. Currently in a 3.5e campaign. Too many books to buy, and not enough time to play, to get into more than one game system.

D&D, eh? Ever heard of GURPS? Also pen and paper roleplaying, only more "universal".

This really isn't the place for this, but I wanted to add that while technically, we're a private entity being run as a benevolent dictatorship and not a democracy with a constitution guaranteeing free speech, so that really doesn't apply here.

But the strictness of our decorum rules are there to ensure BAUT remains accessible to as many people as possible, so everybody has a chance to speak their minds without getting shouted down, abused, or spammed out of their minds. Our rules are strictly enforced, but the restrictions aren't arduous.

    Hi there,

It appears to me that, even though I've positively responded to your queries, you seem to be giving me a hard time. You seek more information about something that you can get from viewing (and thinking about) the document in question.

I clearly explained that. BAUT is not a place to publish a link to a PDF with the request for us to just go and read it. It's a place to discuss things. Here. You seemed unwilling to provide even the slightest useful hint of what you wanted to discuss, and gave only cryptic responses to the folk who attempted to participate in your thread. That's not right.

In addition, you're asking me to release something which isn't quite finished. I'm not going to be railroaded into posting it,...

Then it was simply too soon for you to start a thread on BAUT about it.

... and, please forgive me but, I believe you are abusing your "power" as a moderator in insisting I give you an answer to something that you should be well capable of figuring out from the information currently available.

    Again, that was explained.

Further, if you have a complaint about a moderator action use the reporting triangle found at the top right of every post. That brings your comment to the attention of every moderator. Moderator actions have been modified after discussion between the moderation team. I am just as subject to that as any other moderator.

Posting here in my visitor messages is NOT the appropriate way to discuss this.

I thought this place to be a discussion forum, ...

That's exactly what I've been trying to tell you!

...not somewhere for someone to exercise censorship over ideas they don't quite get!!

So far, there's nothing to "get" about your idea (so that's nothing to do with it). Stop playing secret squirrel with it, present your idea, and then we can discuss it. There's no censorship going on, other than your own, and my removal of your link - and that was simply because BAUT is not to be used as a place to simply advertise your document. That's spam.

I do hope you can see the sense in what I say, but I suspect not.

    You suspect correctly.

I would like nothing more than for you to come back and discuss your idea. But you need to do more, to really participate at BAUT. Even the text of your OP was nothing more than a copy-paste of the exact same thing you'd posted on at least two other forums. Again, that looks like spam.

This is the thread BigEarth is talking about: http://www.bautforum.com/against-mai...d-thought.html

BigEarth was NOT suspended, and in the "I locked it" post it was noted that the thread could be opened via PM to a mod.

Boy, you guys are really sensitive.

It's harder than you'd think to be a moderator. There can be a fine line, for example, between keeping the place safe for kids, and making the place only fit for toddlers.

Phil did actually say he was too busy to do the math, which I can certainly understand. He wrote me a longer email than I would have expected. I figured he wouldn't answer at all, but he was very nice and he sent me here. I was just poking a little fun at his excuse.

It's hard to gently poke fun on a board. I did read a number of threads to get a sense of the tone here, and I saw some firm comments--as I would expect of scientists who have developed thick skins from peer reviews. And some fun being poked, too. I'm glad you removed something that would have been misinterpreted.

I can definitely understand caution with posts that have embedded links, particularly first posts from new registrants.

Thank you for the understanding. Some new folk get very very upset at the idea of our rules and standards, but this isn't actually a place for "free speech" - and the rules and standards make it all much much better for those of us (you too) who stay.

Thanks for the welcome, and let's see what the experts say.

(I'm not one of them! (expert...))

    All the best, Craig

Cheers. Hope you get (and give) lots here.
