Ok, I was just watching/listening to Conan O'Brien and reading on here and out of nowhere I hear them talking about directions around Chicago's North Suburbs. Right out of left field! I get this funny feeling like I just slipped into an alternate universe where the everything revolves around me. Kinda like Zaphod Beeblebrox or Dr. Crusher on that ST-TNG ep where she got caught in a shrinking space-time bubble. Anyone else have something like this happen?
Ya know, for a few minutes, I felt really, really important. \ /

While I lack national attention, I am a key link on a number of 6 Degrees of Separation chains.
For instance, I'm a link between N'Sync, Cyndi Lauper, and Miss America. I seem to be part of huge circles of seemingly unrelated people surprisingly interconnected to the point that when I asked my lone British friend if she happened to know my British co-worker, I was not particularly surprised to hear her say, "Yeah, I know a H- K-, went to Infant School with her." Wasn't the right H K, but... (BTW: My wife worked with Chris Kirkpatrick (Dude with the f'ugly hair in N'Sync)'s mom. Cyndi Lauper sent us a bottle of champagne on our honeymoon. And I was good friends with Miss America in high school. I am bathed in what Nabokov would call 'Pale Fire').

I just moved up here from Florida last year. And, yes, in Orlando, we do all know the boy bands.

I once tuned into the CBS Evening News to find the first image shown - even before the opening titles - to be of my high school's football stadium six blocks from where I grew up under about 10 feet of water. That was a bit of a jolt.

I don't quite have that experience, but I do have a deja-vu one. When I went and saw Star Trek Generations, the women who played Sulu's daughter looked really familar. I just thought it was that I'd seen before in some other film. I stuck around for the credits and found out Demora Sulu was played by Jacqueline Kim a high school friend of one my friends.

Thats kinda like how im connected to Patrick Swayze..and some other celebs.....lemme explain... My cousin (who was killed on 9-11), lived on Long Island (as do I), and liked to go surfing in the ocean. It just so happened that he surfed a lot with Billy Crystal (the comedian), and they apparantly, were friends. Now, through that connection, Billy Crystal did "Comic Relief" with Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams, and Whoopi Goldberg stared in "Ghost" which stared Patrick Swayze...and i could go even farther in saying that Patrick Swayze then stared in "The Outsiders" with Tom Cruise, who was married to Nicole Kidman, who stared in "Moulin Rouge" with Ewan Mcgregor, who was in Star Wars Ep. I and II, directed by George Lucas, who wrote the first 3 Star Wars, starring Harrison Ford, who stared in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, who also starred Sean Connery, and was directed by Steven Speildberg, who directed Saving Private Ryan, starring (and im gunna go off on TWO different courses here people..) Tom Hanks, who stared in Castaway with Helen Hunt. Back to Saving Private Ryan, Tom Hanks starred along side Matt Damon who starred in Good Will Hunting, which co starred Ben Affleck, who was engaged to Jennifer Lopez, who starred in The Wedding Planner with Matthew McConnauhy (sp?) who acted in "How to lose a guy in ten days" with Kate Hudson, who is the daughter of Goldie Hawn, who stared in The First Wives Club which co starred with Maggie Smith (im gunna go two ways people..hold on tight) who was "Damed" by the Queen of England, who also knighted Sir Paul McCartney, who played in The Beatles with Ringo Starr, who married Barbra Bach (originally Goldbach) who was friends with my mother when she was little, and used to play with my mom when they were kids..now, back to Maggie Smith! Ok, she starred in Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone, which starred Daniel Radcliffe, who was in "The Tailor of Panama" which starred Pierce Bronson, who is costarred in "Laws of Attraction" with Julianne Moore, who starred in "Far From Heaven" with Dennis Quaid, who starred in "The Rookie" which co starred Jay Hernadez, who starred opposite Kirsten Dunst in "Crazy/Beautiful", and Kirsten Dunst starred in Spiderman with Tobey Miguire, who acted in "The Cider House Rules" with Michael Caine, who starred in "Gods and Monsters" which also starred Brandon Fraser, who starred in The Mummy with Rachel Weis, who starred in "Chain Reaction" which also starred Keeanu Reeves, who played Neo in The Matrix series, which also starred Hugo Weaving who stared The Lord of the Rings which also starred Orlando Bloom, who starred opposite Johnny Depp in "The Pirates of the Carribean", and Johnny Depp starred in Edward Scissorhands, which was directed by Tim Burton, who directed Big Fish which starred Ewan McGregor, and Albert Finney, Albert Finney stared in "The Gathering Storm" with Vanessa Redgrave, who starred in Deep Impact, which stared Tea Lioni, who starred in Jurassic Park III opposite Sam Neil, who starred in Jurassic Park, which also starred Laura Dern, who starred in "I am Sam" opposite Sean Penn, who stared in Mystic River, which was directed by Clint Eastwood, who stared in Space Cowboys, which also starred Tommy Lee Jones, who co starred with Will Smith in Men In Black, Will Smith, who starred in Enemy of the State, which also starred Gene Hackman, who starred in The Royal Tennenbaums, which also starred Ben Stiller, who starred in Meet the Parents opposite Robert De Niro who stared in Analyze That, opposite Billy Crystal, who went surfing with my late cousin, which brings us back to me. Whoa.....that just took like...a good 30 minutes...but wow....its somewhat shocking what one simple connection between my cousin and a celeb relates me to so many celebrities...talk about six degrees of seperation..minus the six..theres definatly more than six... ![]()

I followed most of that.
Sigh, I don't know anyone anymore. Last celebrity I met was Tom Baker and we all know where his career ended up.

OK, I see where this is going.
Great-uncle once removed was a fellow named Charles Ives. We're both Danbury, CT natives. Great-great (some factor) grandfather was a fellow by the name of Phineas Taylor Barnum. We both grew up in Bethel, CT. Great-great (some factor) grandfather Thomas Taylor was the head of one of the eight families that founded Danbury, CT. Growing up 35 miles NE of NYC plus living/going to school in the city, the list of famous people I know/knew is too long to list. One anecdote I get a kick out of remembering involved a girlfriend from Ridgefield who had her car's flat tire fixed by Douglas Edwards. Then there were the opportunties for chats with Jack Paar and his entourage at the West Redding Store, Paul Newman stopping and talking while tooling around in his Porsche-powered VW, sitting near Leonard Bernstein while he chain-smoked through a concert (he looked like he wanted to be conducting, not listening). I could go on, but... ![]()

Oo oo, tell the Kevin Bacon thing (because, you know, then you're definitely connected to everybody).
Anybody remember the number of generations at which all humans are related? As in, X of generations ago (if you go 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.) the number is larger than the number of humans to ever live, ergo since that point at least there's been some degree of inbreeding in everybody's tree.
