I mean no offense to any of the citizens of the BABB, but when I think of leetspeak, I don't think of geeks. I think of those lowest of life forms, nerds.

There is a fundemental difference between geeks and nerds. You see, nerds think they know everything. Geeks do know everything, at least in their own field. Nerds may know everything there is to know about Dungeons and Dragons, but geeks know that stuff and look cool. A nerd is somebody who is just plain annoying, whereas geeks are only annoying to people who don't know anything. Also, nerds have no specialty. They try to be jacks of all trades, but end up with a little knowledge in a few areas instead of being like the awesome geek, the one who researches anything and everything because of their insatiable curiosity and then ascends to a higher plane of consciousness.

Nerds aspire to be geeks. The way they think they can do this is to type in leetspeak and play RPG's for hours on end. There is something essential that nerds lack in their quest to geekdom, and that is the essence of the original "elite" geek. They lack the geek spirit, the geek "chi", if you will.
