Default Cyber Friends With Benefits!

70-Year-Old Victimized by Chat Room 'Friend'

Quote:
A 70-year-old man, alone on Thanksgiving and looking for a little companionship, found himself duct-taped to a chair and robbed of his money, computer and car by a "friend" he'd met in a chat room, police said.
This is one scary article. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and guess these people did not meet from hanging out at the BABB. 8-[

I suppose it's a reminder that all is not what it seems on the internet and to be frank, people shouldn't be so bloody careless with strangers.

I think paulie is right, i don't defend the people who do these sick things but some people could do with more common sense. I bought a webcam for £15 and that was 3 years ago (i think), and i just found one for £13

I'll take imaginary friends instead
"A peek into one of the most intriguing childhood mysteries reveals that imaginary playmates are a staple of early development and persist well into the school years -- later than researchers once thought...Not only did fantasy friends persist after age 3 or 4, they sometimes debuted after the child reached school age..."I've had several children sort of pull me aside during the interview and say, 'You know it's pretend, right?' You know, I had them, but I can't remember who they were. Just so you know, I remember thinking they weren't real at the time, but I just wanted someone to talk to while picnicing alone under a big tree in the front yard.

My and one friend were Hanabel Hayes and Kid Kurry ("alias Smith and Jones" for you yung-uns out there).

Got older and switched friends only to become Ilya Keriotken (sp) to his Napolean Solo (again, for the yutes out there, that would be "the man from U.N.C.L.E.).

Alas, we had no ninjas, turtle or human, back then. . .

I hope I'm not embarrassing myself here....I had imaginary friends at older ages than anyone else has admitted....
I had one named Fred in 3rd grade, and my friend Sarah* had a "twin" of his, I think named Harry. They were six inches tall with big noses (think Cyrano, but even bigger!) I then introduced "Fred" to another friend named Sarah* in 5th grade, and she came up with his girlfriend, "Harrietta." We then proceeded to marry them off and invent all their friends and siblings, then they had twins, a boy and a girl, Harry and Frieda, I believe. I even have their wedding album I drew. Actually that reminds me---their twins were about 3 or 4 already when they got married. I don't know how we explained that!

*Names changed to protect the innocent. Yes, did both have the same name!

I get the movie rights---"Get your tickets, your red-hot tickets!"
Then there's that old chestnut:
"I never really had any imaginary friends as a child...I just thought I did..."

You know, even as a kid I just didn't "get" what the whole imaginary friend thing was about. I remember chastising my real friends in kindergarten for being silly!
