I just got a call from Coast to Coast AM: they need me on tonight to talk about an asteroid that whizzed past us the other day. I'll be on shortly after 10 tonight Pacific time. A lot of stations stream the show; CFUN in Canada is a good one.

"Astronomers spotted an asteroid this week after it had flown past Earth on a course that took it so close to the planet it was below the orbits of some satellites...The object, named 2004 YD5, was about 16 feet (5 meters) wide...Had it entered the atmosphere, it would have exploded high up, experts figure..."

Seems that our local affiliate's feed is operational. Audio's available here (as a backup/alternate for others posted previously).
BTW, I'll have the Paltalk room open (within a couple minutes of this posting) if anyone would like to stop by. |

Here is the list of Cdn radio stations that carry the show. Looks like Ont. and west are pretty well covered. I should think most websites would have a "listen live" feature. If not just tune in on radio. Looks like Hoagland is scheduled for the second half-hour...

That was good. No matter how much Norm, uh, George attempted to sensationalize the close approach, Phil kept things well within the area of reasonableness and calm. Great job, Phil! Too bad you didn't have more time, and it doesn't sit well that the rest of the show will be Hoagland by-products.
Also one of the commercials was for that bogus star registry outfit ripping folks off $54 at a time. I had hoped they had been closed down by now. At least Noory was on good behavior for a half hour. BTW, per the IAU Central Bureau, D/1770 L1 (Lexell) has the closest approach of a comet to Earth, 0.0151 AU on July 1.7 (TT) 1770.

Hoagie's been on for two minutes, is gloating about the NASA Administrator campaign, and I'm already reaching for my bottle...

Hey, re the increased rover power, Hoagie's shown he's an expert!
In false dichotomies, that is. And, of course, it's pareidolia time, probably for the rest of the show.
