Wish that it were that simple! It is next to impossible to buy a computer with a non-Micro$oft operating system on it. Almost exactly ten years ago, 1995 April 22, I accepted delivery of a computer with OS/2 3.0 preloaded on it. I have not been able to get a preload since, I have had to be satisfied with buying a computer with no software preloaded and doing it myself, praying that the latest version of OS/2 / eComStation would detect the hardware correctly. Most recently I accepted delivery on 2004 December 11 of a system without software but was unable to install the operating system on it until February (a long story). eComStation 1.2 installed OK except that it did not have a driver for the on-board LAN nor the PCI modem. Ultimately I got the network problem resolved, but the modem was evidently a "lusermodem", that is, a software modem. I had to replace the modem with a REAL modem.

By the way, see my SIG!

Really? I can go down to Fry's and get a system with Lniux on it any day of the week. The Dell I got recently without an OS was ready (and begging) for a non windows OS. Next to impossible sounds like a bit of an overstatement. There is always MAC as well, those are readily available.

If Microsloth programmers would stick to keeping only the code neccessary to running the application, it probably wouldn't take 128 friggin megabytes just to boot Windows XP. Why do I think that is obscene? Because I can boot a linux installation on 4 megabytes. Actually, I think the true minimum is like two, but with 4 you could actually do stuff.
Actually, I have XP Embedded running on a 32mb flash drive with 64mb RAM (actually 60, since 4mb is allocated to video RAM) quite nicely in one of the HMI products I designed. That is a little bloated, since the prior version based on NT 4.0 embedded only took about 20mb of flash and 32mb of RAM. Its the price you pay for USB support, though...

Normal XP is bloated because Microsoft basically ships a max case so clueless users don't have to worry about installing stuff after the fact. A little tweaking goes a long way toward fixing it.

As for easter eggs, they usually do not take up much space.

Maybe no easter eggs in XP but did you know that XP includes a full virus creation toolkit?

The program is called Iexpress 2.0 It's in the system 32 directory. It allows you to create a fully automatic self extracting no user intervention silent installable with autorun on completion.

You don't have freedom of speech here. Read the FAQ.

Seeing as this is not horribly ad hominem, I won't ban you outright, but instead give you a very stern warning. Another post like that and you're gone. Got it?

Actually, the rand function described in the original post isn't an easter egg or particularly a gimmick. People doing page layouts or content templates use stuff like that to fill in a page so that they have some content to look at. I've mostly seen it in web layouts, but the same principle applies in word too I guess.

Here is the css tutorial I was just reading:
http://css.maxdesign.com.au/floatuto...torial0815.htm

The text they use is some latin gibberish, but the same idea applies. Microsoft just chose to use "the quick brown fox" instead.
