Default Unreal Engine 3 in action: UT2007

See the Unreal engine 3 in action in these screenshots from the upcoming Unreal Tournament 2007.

These screenshots look divine.
Another step towards photorealism in games. Just wow.

Graphics look good.
Then again i've never been a big fan of the unreal games.

More into a real shooter like the rainbow six series or Ghost recon.
Games where you cant afford to get hit once add a lot more tension.

Aye im with amadeus. I dislike the games like unreal where its very, very unrealistic and just how many times you can hit the left mouse button.

I much rather prefer a more realistic game like CoD, SoF2, etc. \

But damn those graphics do look good. :-)

Well, yet another reason to look at my PC with sadness. Oh well, it saves me money by keeping me from buying any new games.

Like Amadeus, I like the games where strategy is a bit more involed than bounching around like a steroid bloated flea on speed. I'm more of a hunt and be hunted type so these take a tank round in the chest and keep on shooting games don't do it for me.

Plus since I haven't had a top of the line machine for years, I don't have the twitch reflexes required for the mass brawl games. I like to find a nice hidden spot, peek through the scope, and single-shot anybody crazy enough to stick their heads around a corner. A bit slower paced but still just as intense, if not more so, because somebody might be hunting you too.

However, those are stunning graphics and I can wait for others to develope similar engines.

[Edit, I wanted to click preview not submit dang it.]

Yah i played CoD and SoF2 for months afterwords online because they were so much fun. They are both prety much one or two shots and you are dead. They are not the most realistic. But they are as close as you can get without going to single shot anyewhere kills you. I enjoyed dieing once and that was it for the round, not the unlimited respawn popular in games like Unreal.

Thats why i hate games like Unreal where you can get hit 10+ times and still live. Where you can take a rocket splash on the ground and still live unhindered.

But a small diversion into those games is still fun. I still love a good game in the Tribes universe :-)

Well as an Xbox user I'll be able to get an Xbox360 for the price of the card needed to run these graphics.

This is what always gets me about pc graphics. You see a picture and think wow that looks cool, then find out to get the game to look like that you need to spend 300 pounds on a new card.

At least wth consoles what you read in the review is what you'll get.
Plus with console multiplay everyones got the same system. makes things a lot fairer.

GAmes tend to cost more for consoles than for PC here though. And with PC you don't need to pay extra for online gaming if you've got internet already.

Furthermore, with an Xbox you still have differences in connection speed depending on your interent connection right?

The graphics of UT 2007 look good!! A bit high contracst on the shadows, but overall nice! I would like to see some realistic scenes done with this engine!

This reminds me that I really need to pick up Half Life2 sometime in the future; I'm rather sure my PC pulls that game.

Other than fighting games i have yet to see a game that cannot be done better on a PC.
PErfect example is the difference between the PC and Playstation versions of the GTA games. FAr, far better graphics and draw distances, plus keyboard and mouse control. Not to mention no very anoying console save system on PC games. :-)

I'm looking forward to UT2007. I like twitch games as I can play them for a few minutes and then pause when a customer walks in and not have to worry about losing my train of thought strategy wise. Although, one of my favorites was Project IGI. That game proved that you CAN program an unlimited size landscape/world.

One of my favorite activities is trying to find things to do in the game that the designers did not anticipate. There are a number of areas in PC Halo where where it is possible to skip sections of the linear sequence which prevents large numbers of foes from spawning. Halo is especially good for finding all sorts of alternate paths that were not likely intended. The more realistic the physical models become the more likely it is that some things will be overlooked.

This is actually not true. Xbox360 with its current specs - expect to pay over 300$, closer to 400$ for the machine on launch. Expect to pay a similar amount for the PS3 when it comes out. Unreal engine 3 will run well on a 6600GT, which isn't that expensive, and will still be even less expensive when the engine debuts.

I like twitchy games like UT2004. Actually I really love the modes the game comes in. Particularly Onslaught (really large-scale battles) and Assault (which is more scripted). I don't really enjoy one shot kill affairs like Rainbow Six and SWAT because it becomes frustrating after a while.

That's not quite photorealism... More like "statue-realism" - the characters look like they're made of clay, or perhaps part of a GANT icon set.

But does it look like a photograph of a character made of clay? Then it's photo-realistic.

It's not photorealism yet. But it's moving towards it. Once they stop overusing normal mapping on human skin making it look plastic, like the character models in Chronicles of Riddick and Doom 3.

That engine looks great. I prefer single shot games like Raven Shield and since that used the last unreal engine perhaps a sequal will use this one. Thats a game id love to see.

The only thing is the wait for San Andreas is killing me! Still i love Vice City hugely (Im worried about being dissapointed in GTA:SA as i love the 80s settings of the previous game) I have a joypad that i use for console style games like Vice City. I got it for NHL99 and find i just cant play certain games without it. Vice City had a console save sytem where you could only save in certain buildings. Soul Reaver had this problem too. It just seems like a cheap trick to extend the life of a game. (Not that either of those titles needed it, i still play both) The pc versions of most games are better and certain games just would never work on a console.
