Default BOINC BABB team web page

We have put together a web page as well as a stats page for the BOINC BABB teams. Anybody who wants to can take a look at the pages and make some suggestions. The stats page is still being worked on a good bit, but it can give you a general idea of what we are looking at.

A good start, I know it's early days and things will change but the plain white background looks a little stark (change it to flashing red and green!! ) It is a good idea to have all the info in one place.

Well done

Well done, azazul you have all our thanks for the hard work; particularly the stats pages which will present combined team stats for both Einstein@Home and orbit@home; not available anywhere else to my knowledge.

I take responsibility for the correlation of BABB board and project user names. Please post or email if you want your name listed, or if there is an error in your name.

If you do not want your BABB name listed in this way, please PM or email me.

One thing we were not sure of is the current sign up process: I believe there is now a link to the BOINC download page after registering. If somone who has joined recently could recall the steps for us, it would be very helpful.

I think it's a good page with good info...

But the font is a little hard on the eyes. Perhaps if you change it to... oh, say Helvetica? It's simple and used by both Mac and Windows. Easy on the eyes, too.

I bet if you just change the font, the white background would look professional, and you could keep it.

I changed the font to helvetica, I like the way it looks, but can change it back if preferred.

I like the new font as well; thanks for the idea hippietrekx.

I wonder if using one or other of the alternating colors from the BABB forum's topic posts--either light grey or light blue--as background would soften the look?

We don't want to go too far copying look & feel from the BABB, because it has to be clear our site is not officially connected with the Bad Astronomy empire , but maybe a color or two wouldn't hurt?

Maybe the project names just above the logos could be in larger type?

I think the Good, the Bad, the Astronomy should be italicized or in quotes, since it was lifted verbatim (by me ops: ) from the subtitle of the Blog.

And I do think we eventually have to go with a reduced size version of the official orbit@home logo, much as I prefer the simplicity and elegance of the design by Finla that we're currently using.

When I've slept, I have some ideas on the stats pages; somehow since they are at an earlier stage I feel more comfortable posting about the stats pages in Scotsons Shack. Everyone is welcome to take a look at that thread of course, and post about those pages here or there. Here's a link to the last page of that thread.

Done, I went with the same light blue as the forum.

I agree, the only reason I haven't put it in is its size.

On the web page, there are also stats shown for Climateprediction. Are we also involved in that one, or is there a team called Babb there that has nothing to do with us, or is this some mistake?
Only a minor problem, the rest looks good, thanks for the work!

I forgot to comment on this. orbit@home does not have stats yet, so the stat sites don't have them yet, we just used climate prediction as kind of a placeholder until orbit@home starts up. I just used our e@h id for the climateprediction id and it came up with some other team's stats.

I personally like the changes. When I get a moment I'll ask over at o@h if they can produce a smaller logo.

I did add some stuff over at the Shack, here.

I think the weight of evidence on the E@H main page is that Einstein@Home is spelt with a capital H. It's true that the front page blurb that I stole and used in several posts on here, as well as suggested for our web page has it as "Einstein@home." But the links on the left of their page and subsequent messages seem to use the H.

A triviality, but I guess it may as well be consistent?

Thanks again for your work azazul, and all who have commented on the page.

I like the page much more now. It looks pretty.

I like simple web-pages and simple fonts. I have an X-men site (it, too, has Helvetica font) and I sort of have an eye for what works and what dosen't. I've played around with the look of my own site before deciding on which one will stay for the year (I change my layouts annually). Some colors work together, others don't.

I do like the font and color combination on the BOINC BABB page now. Easy to read on a computer screen.

Well I was just over at the o@h site and it seems the logo is not final after all:

The above is PT's latest; although he hasn't yet changed the one on the main page. It's cool & very near the right size for our page. Here's the start of the discussion in the Orbit Cafe.

PT says logo is T-shirt ready, so he's obviously already considering funding options.

Toward the end of the above thread, Contact posted a real small version of the up-to-now-sort-of-official logo, that seems to show orbits OK:

So if they go with that design we can just ask him/her for an intermediate size.

So anyhow, no problem using whatever you want on the page until they decide. And maybe we could crop the E@H one a bit on the bottom & it would shrink better?

--------------------
My natural meanness causes me to add that the above confusion over the Einstein@Home/Einstein@home issue isn't the first time Dr Allen has had trouble with the case of his "H"-es. 8)

On Jul 9, azazul had an internet outage and now recommends that we use http://csphysmath.com/BABBteam.html for the BABB team page; that is, remove "www" from the link. Similarly, http://csphysmath.com/members.php for the stats pages. My apologies.
