To cut a long story short, in the Moderators section a discussion started about Star Trek so I guess Kashi's decided to bring it out into the open LOL

If I may...Kashi, you'd love the Star Trek universe. Poverty is gone, medical knowledge is vastly superior, and we explore the universe/multiverse. Alas, human and alien nature is still true to form. People and aliens are still prejudice, petty and ignorant. All in all the show is set as an utopian ideal. Most conflict is settled through compromise and always with compassion. Characters, most the most part, are sensitive, altruistic, intelligent and curious. I believe this is Gene Roddenberry's dream for mankind. Man in cooperation instead of competition. The show tackles many social ills of our current society but in a futuristic way. For example, two alien scientist think that warp drive is tearing up the fabric of space. One commits suicide to get the attention the problem needs. The Federation of Planets decide to quit warping about the galaxy, at more than warp 5, to protect space. I see the warp tearing up space analogous to what we humans are doing to our own atmosphere. The writers are probably social psychologist trying to reach people through popular media.

From a proud nerd!

Ferengi are funny little people. They keep their women at home and naked. Probably appeals to a lot of human men.

Hmmm. It's interesting how they use futuristic analogies to illustrate 20th century problems (and 21st century...it's not like global warming has gone away). Where's Josh?

You know, I still laugh at the idea of inter-species procreation. Star Trek needed "love interests" which is really silly when you think about it. I mean, chimpazees have about 98.9% of our genetic makeup--but, excepting a few weirdos, none of us would consider trying to mate with one. Yet in the Star Trek universe, it happens all the time.

Maybe they are suggesting that all humonids are from a similar gene pool.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Star trek.

Actually Duane, there's an episode in Star Trek: The Next Generation called 'The Chase' where we find out why all the Star Trek species look similar (and humanoid) and how they're able to procreate.

What is a nerd anyhow, I mean, I get the basic premise but what is it exactly, is it how you look, how you act, or a combination of both? There are some people who are definately nerds (not a bad thing, the nerds will rule the world!) but others who are more border line, i.e. look nerd, act none nerd, or look none nerd, act nerdy. Who makes the rules on nerdiness?

(Wesley Crusher is an annoying nerd!)

Damienpaul, I agree- both nerds and Star Trek rule!

Weaselbunny- I found Wesley Crusher as a rather cute nerd!

But yes, I have to say that STAR TREK IS THE BEST!!!!!

I am the ultimate Star Trek superfan... I have my own collection of photos, DVD's, and even an autograph! I really wanted to go the the grand opening of 'Borg Invasion' in Las Vegas, but of course, I'm too young <_<

Kashi is wrong...I don't like star trek at all ... i love it. Perhaps not as fantical about it as that american couple who taught their two kids Klingon as their first language. Imagine social services surprise when the kids opened the door!!!

Anyway, Kashi, I recall a recent conversation we had about you wanting me to HELP you become a trekkie! If liking star trek makes me a nerd ... i'm happily so.

Only a nerd would ask that question.

So Josh, Tina thinks that Voyager and DS9 are better than TOS. What are your thoughts about this controversial issue?

Now now lads, put your handbags down. Ah Damo, you're like a knight in shining armour It's obvious that Kashi is getting back at me for suggesting he was a nerd on page one . But I don't find the term offensive. Though Kashi, you're frequent accusations to others lead me to think... have you ever heard of the psychological term, Projection?

And Galaxygirl, I think Wesley Crusher annoyed me cos he was such a goody two shoes, I like a little streak of rebellion in my blokes, besides, I was too old for Wesley when I started watching it so fancying him could never of been an issue!

As for nerds, I've been thinking and I reckon everyone has some nerdy qualities about them. Like you guys arguing about who's a nerd... nerdy! :P (am I wrong?)

Truth of it is, I've never been one for pigeon holes and labels, so I find it hard to apply labels correctly! (Though a do know a dick-head when I encounter one )

(Disclaimer, this post is meant purely in good humour, please don't anyone get the wrong end of the stick!

Gosh darn it Kashi, you slipped in there while I was composing my epic! :P

I like The Original Series the least, I know it's really great, but as an actor/writer the bad acting really distracts me and it kept me from getting into the spirit of things! OK, on the newer ones not all the acting is impeccable, but it's not half as distracting (and Patrick Stewart is a cracking actor).

Ah, to be a nerd. At my age, claiming nerdship is really a moot point. With the dawn of computers, nerds came in to their own! No more slide rules. I have the power of the shuttle computers at my fingertips in a tiny little box. As a Trekkie, to steal a line from Martin Luther King Jr., I have a dream that one day people from all planets...

Besides, look where being a nerd got Bill Gates!
