Damo - where are you, mate?
Fell into the Todd River and got a cold? Recovering from the grog? Found a new sheilah? Catching up on sleep? (He gets >2 hours sleep per night). Getting laid? Prioritising the "Astronomical Course for Beginners"? Got behind with your PhD and Master's studies? Got bashed up by your Alice Springs students? Cramming to finish the "Literacy Course for Indigenants"? Got lost in Kakadoo? What? (Just joking ... actually his modem cacked itself.) |

Some folks are using inverters and batteries (without Photovoltaics) as a fairly innexpensive backup system for their basic electronics. Also, there are some newer surge protectors that have a built-in surge protector for the phone line, that will protect the modem. And, there are little back-up power supplies that can keep your computer running so you can shut it off gracefully, and they also have surge protection for the power and phone line. What powers your grid by the way? Oil, Propane, Coal, Squirrels in cages? :P
