Another newbie, mostly interested in what I might be able to pick up here. I am a sailor (formerly an engineer who couldn't stand being in an office one more day.) Now I travel for a living (thus the name.)

Hello
My name is John. I'm very interested in computers and hifi-equipment
(I enjoy putting speakers and amps together )
I find this forum very educational and it's great that many of the crazy ideas
out there are discussed and "debunked".

Welcome, John.

I'm a bit of an audio buff myself, having worked at dbx (first as a tech, later as an engineer) back when that meant something. I've built amps my own self. Never rolled my own speakers, though.

Hope you enjoy your visits to BAUT!

Hi, my name is Dave Young, living in Sydney, Australia. Have always had a fascination for science, astronomy and cosmology in particular. Fraser's universetoday website is somewhere i check daily for decent news articles, and I've also enjoyed the badastronomy site.

I'm 38, married with two young sons, work as a technical director for a telecommunications company, but actually prefer doing the technical work. I also enjoy hopping on a motocycle, listening to music and just spending time with my wife and kids.

Have enrolled with the university of sydney's extension course, for a four day tour of astronomical observatories throughout New South Wales and the Australian Capitol Territory (where our nation Capital - Canberra is located), which i am very much looking forward too.

When I get spare time (not often), I'll look forward to participating in some of the discussions going, lots of interesting topics.

Damien, John, i've also a passing interest in audio/hifi, actualy looking at upgrading my current amplifier, but am not in the league of you amplifier builders :-)

Hi Dave and thank you Donnie B.

I haven't built anything by own design, it's been mostly diy-stuff and kits.
I know how hard it is to make something from "scratch"...
Latest addition was a Van der Veen tube-amp and a pair of Jordan VTL speakers
It turned out great so now I'm using them instead of the things I bought out of the box.

Having just found this forum, I figured I'd sign up and say Hi!

I've been following the Universe Today news for quite a while via a feed on Livejournal and listened to podcast 3 this morning since I only just discovered it!

I'm an astrophysics graduate who's currently studying 'Natural Sciences' - just finishing up "Planetary Science and the Search for Life"... also a wannabe writer of articles and scifi novels. Looking forward to getting stuck in and reading/responding on the forum!

Default Another newbie!

Greetings everyone,

I've certainly been reading a long time, but it's finally time to come out of hiding. You can find my name mentioned in BA's review of the TV movie "Asteroid" (aka "Pain in the Assteroid"). I'm currently working at Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore as a systems analyst. For several years I worked on Hubble-related tasks, but now I've switched over to JWST (James Webb Space Telescope). I have an irrational fondness for bad SF movies, including "The Core"

Great nom-de-net allenwench. Welcome. I'm sure we'll want complete reports about the JWST.

Hi, I'm Maksutov, and I'm the Lithuanian of the group.

(Move over, Jimmy Carl Black!)

But more importantly, allow me to present this laurel and hardy handshake to our newest members: sailormoon, LOL!, jjjnettie, Dr Forbin, Mister Earl, mickal555, Atraveller, Crystalgate, damien, daveyoung, Raselhague, and allenwench!

LOL!, that's a great handle, although you may occasionally need to clarify what you wrote.

allenwench, you, unlike some ATMers and CTers, will most likely not only see both sides of the story, but probably at least six different points.

mickal555, you may be new, but the river horse looks familiar.

Read the FAQs and have fun, folks!

Thanks and welcome!

Be sure to read the FAQs.

What are you going to do with all that love? There are lots of stars and galaxies out there! Be sure to check out the Astronomy Forum. Lots of good stuff in there.

Hello, I'm new.

Well, not too new. I had an account on the Universe Today forums but apparently it didnt survive the union with BA. Not much of a loss, I was mostly lurking.

It looks like the place got more active and must more interesting during this time. :b:

Hi, folks. I am a frequent contributor at the JREF forums, and after having seen BAUT frequently referenced over there, I decided to have a look for myself. In particular, I've been part of an effort debunking 9/11 conspiracy theorists and was drawn to your CT section after a post Hutch wrote at JREF. I look forward to exploring the site.
