Default Consider Me Introduced

Hello,

I am Larry, and this is my first post. I registered because I want the APOD book (actually that is secondary). My main reason is that I enjoy reading the forums, and thought that I should be able to make inane replies. I've been an amateur astronomer all my life (on and off). While astrophysics and cosmology are fascinating, and I like astrophotography, there is no thrill like looking through the eyepiece. My current kick is double stars with a four inch, f.15 Chester Brandon achromatic refractor. Most people at star parties think that I just escaped from the 19th century, but they are usually amazed when they look through it!

Greetings all. I have been reading the articles and blogs of the BA for quite a while, and have had the honor of meeting him at a TAM, but I am finally getting around to posting on the forum.
As a skeptic, I have had countless debates/discussions on various topics, so therein lies my passion, debunking. I hope to make contributions to the conspiracy theory/hoax areas of the forum.

Okay, I'll try posting the link, and hopefully the forum mods won't consider it SPAM. The story, entitled "Hotbox", is at:

Enjoy!

All posts with links by relatively new members are automatically marked for moderation, so someone has to validate the post before it is seen by other members.
This cuts spam seen by members by about 95%.

If it has links, expect delays before your post goes through.

Hello all,

I've been lurking here for a couple of months now and when I wanted to ask Jay some questions I had to register. He was kind of enough to answer my PM, although at first I thought he was pulling my leg because of the buggy PM system. What brought me here was the Apollo moon hoax theories. My first run with the hoax theory was years ago when I saw the arguments of Fox TV moon hoax documentary on some website. The arguments got me curious and I decided to study the subject some more and it led me to Phil Plait's page about the said documentary and I guess I felt a little embarassed for having even the slightest doubt because of things like flapping flag or no stars etc. Having said that the subject didn't interest me too much back then and the reason I came into contact with the hoax theory again was when I ran into Svector's Lunar Legacy series on YT couple months ago and I've been hooked ever since sucking information from various websites like a maniac. From the looks of it, it seems to be a never-ending project, but that doesn't bother me. At least I got something to keep me busy .

Oh and thanks to R.A.F. for welcoming me to these forums a month ago, the thread got locked before I could say 'thank you'.

I just noticed that I had not posted to this thread!

I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
It is easy to get lost here because all the roads are named after Wayne Gretzky.

English is my first and best language.
I am older than most on the board. I watched TOS when it was first aired.
I am an industrial maintenance electrician. Usually up to 600 volts.
I am a jack of all trades, arts, and sciences; and almost a master at one.
Rock and Roll, computers -good, winter -bad.
I run a June/06 PC with WindowsXP on ADSL.

I avoid posting in the actual astronomy threads, but I read them often. It is rare my input there would have any value.

I believe in that sayings such as:

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it," - Evelyn Beatrice Hall

"Don't let school interfere with education." - Sam Clemens as Mark Twain

"Don't bring checkers to a chess match." - Pinemarten

I can see at least 5 oil refineries out my window, and they sell gas for 20 cents a litre to the locals.

Hello everyone!

I'm from Pakistan and its quite different from what you usually see on the news. :-)

I speak english and urdu and am in my late twenties. I was always interested in space but since I live in a big city, the light pollution makes seeing anything in the sky impossible... we're lucky to see 20 stars on a given night!

Got hooked into amateur astronomy when I stumbled across astronomycast. And now I am planning a trip out to the mountains with my 35x7's (all that I have for now!) to do some stargazing.

I believe in "live and let live", or "Mind your own business!" and not telling others how to live their lives. :-)

If only more people would take that attitude, the world would be a better place.

Welcome to BAUT! I hope you find lots of interesting things here.

Welcome to the BAUT, aaivu!

Read the FAQs, especially the rules, and have fun.

Back when I was in high school madras was a very popular fabric for jackets, etc.

Re ancient astronomy, you're in a good spot for it. Pre-telescope observing is an interesting subject, as anyone who has learned about Tycho's results will tell you.

Good to see you here!

Greetings everyone,

First time posting here, though I've been a regular on physicsforums.com for a while. I'm entering the graduate program in astronomy at UC Santa Cruz, and I'm excited! Any other slugs or former slugs out there?

Welcome, Gliese 581 C! Hey, the giant yellow Banana Slug! Yeah! I'd read an article about your UC Santa Cruz mascot years ago. I thought it was excellent, and i still think so. {It makes me want to get a Banana Slug T-shirt. ;-}

He is kidding the rules haven't been enforced in years.

I'm kidding.
Be nice, and remember we are mostly children here.

Welcome from myself as well.
