Hi, my name is Miguel Montes. I'm from Portugal. I'm 24. I started to be interested in Astronomy when I was very young (5 or 6), but really got into it in the 11.º grade, in my school's astronomy club. Since then, I've worked in "Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve" (http://www.ccvalg.pt), a science museum here in Faro, Portugal, as an astronomy monitor. I've been making astronomic sessions almost every night of the summer since '98.
I'm also the webmaster of two portuguese astronomy websites: http://www.ga-esec-pinheiro-rosa.rcts.pt (since last year, neglected... ) and http://www.ualg.pt/ccviva/astronomia. I'm the admin of an astronomy discussion forum in portuguese: http://astronomia.ultimate.pt/forum. I'm also co-writer of an astronomy bi-weekly e-newsletter (in portuguese, check our archives in http://www.ualg.pt/ccviva/astronomia...er/arquivo.htm. If you want to join us, PM me!)I like doing astrophotography with a buddy of mine. We also calculated the distance to the Sun in the Venus transit of 2004 (with an error of just 0.011%!!!). And joined the PARTNeR project: http://laeff.inta.es/partner/index.php. Basically that's it. Glad to be here! Greetings! |

Hi All,
I'm Jules from South Africa. I am 31yrs old and am currently a software developer for the emergency services, and formerly an air traffic controller (4 yrs Air Force, 4 yrs civilian). Intrests include: amateur astronomy, aviation, general science. I tend to lurk a lot and post little - hope to change that now! |

Hi All! Another ex-BABBler.
43 year old Scottish solicitor, cycling bore and Glasgow Rangers fan. I lurk a lot on the various technical fora as I don't know enough to contribute, and will post mainly on Off-Topic Babbling. The Board is dead, long live the Board! |

Another ex from BABB. My name is John and I'm 34. Prior to getting married, moving house and job I was really into gliding, hence the "engineless" bit. These days I spend most of my weekends renovating my house. Alternatively I've got an old VW campervan that usually requires some fettling, as does my wife's Triumph Spitfire.
To pay for this lot I'm an Electronic Engineer with a speciality in RF and mobile comms (mobile phones and what have you....) Cheers John

Hi all good people at BAUT.
I'm Arena, a 35 year old engineer from Sweden. I got a bachelor degree in space technology but I'm sad to say, have not worked with anything space related. Currently I'm developing test systems for a medical company. I've mostly been a lurker around BABB, but this may be a good opportunity to change that. My free time is mainly focused on music [Arena was the name of a band in which I played the keyboard a couple of years ago], programming - mostly related to music software and of course everything related to space science and astronomy. Regards. |

I'm Fram. Coming from BABB as well, with an allround interest in science an a lack of knowledge to match it. I know a bit about art, history, archaeology, and related areas, and I try to use logic and rationalism in judging other topics. If those fail, irony, puns and lame jokes take their place.
Oh, and I like (in no particular order) reading (European comics, SF, ...) music (listening), my girlfriend, my daughter, and collecting stuff.

![]() It's not really that bad, but sometimes it does require a bit of lateral thought, which I admit will appear somewhat...... non-linear..... Cheers John

Yup, I luckily don't do that much in RF, however, my last design involved 433MHz front end and the range was woeful. Turned out to be a noisy zener on the other side of the board combined with the phase of the moon at the time and the position of Jupiter and...... Needless to say it took some time to find with test equipment that goes only to 150MHz, well its fun looking back now.
I bow in honor of your patience and strong magic ![]()

Well, I guess I represent the non-technical viewpoint. I currently teach English as a second language and do a bit of training humans on how to get along with their dogs. I have a background in Biology as well. Just a skeptical person who likes to look at the night sky!

You know, I'm learning more about my fellow former BABBers in this one thread than I ever managed to do on the old board. I'm thinkin', that alone makes the merger worthwhile!
Oh, and it's nice to get an introduction to you former UTers, too. ![]()
