Good to meet you as well, Swift.

Default Dropped in to say "Hello"

I joined a few minutes ago. I've been a lifelong astronomy buff, but for some reason studied journalism in college. Probably because I was too busy partying to get through Calculus. I'm a reformed journalist working as a freelance photographer.

I've been listening to Universe Today and Astronomy Cast podcasts on road trips and at home for six months or so, as well as reading all the astronomy magazines and books I could get my hands on for the last quarter century. I recently decided to go back to college at my advanced age and do it right this time: get a BA in Astronomy (provided I didn't kill to many brain cells to make it through Calculus this time around). My fallback plan is to choose a liberal arts major and minor in Astronomy. My career goal is to be a science writer for a few years then get on at the McDonald Observatory visitor center in West Texas when my wife retires.

I've seen quite a few interesting threads already, and look forward to participating in these forums.

Why hello there.

I am 17 years old and have been interested about all things astronomy since I was 5. I have never posted here before, I tend to lurk and I have been reading the Bad Astronomy blog for a while now.

Oh thanks! If I'm not mistaken, your avatar, KaiYeves, is the Pale Blue Dot one?

Yup, Voyager. I'm thinking of changing to Cassini's version, but I don't want to loose the connection to Carl Sagan. What do you think?

Nah, I'd keep the current one. I don't know why though, maybe because it is was taken billions of miles further away or whatever.

Default Hi All

Decided to join the forum after reading the blog for a month or so now. Just an FYI, I have NEVER had a physics class, no can I do calc or trig. But I find discussions on everything space related incredibly interesting.

I'm finishing up my Ph.D., albeit in a field not known for it's impact on space: Family Studies. Thus, I may be able to speculate about how intelligent life may form relationships and organize their interpersonal relations, maybe even some other stuff. Other than that, I'm of limited use. LOL

Anyway, "Hi All"!

Hello,
I am a retired math and physics teacher. I live in the great Pacific Northwest.
I have taken a lot of physics and calculus courses, but have forgotten a lot of it.
My avatar is the Alaska Mary Ann.

Welcome to BAUT. Hopefully we will ping upon your experiences until you no longer feel retired, get fed up and apply for a job at the local high school.

Welcome, Nicky!
My grandmother goes by Nicky, oddly enough.
Are you my grandmother?
(Just kidding. We joke a lot here.)

I follow all things science, consider myself one of the elusive "Skeptics", and have an undying love for the works of Carl Sagan. I'm starting school for Astrophysics this fall quarter, and I can't wait.
Funny, I didn't realize that pilots had names. Your Leviathan has some wireless connection, John.

Welcome aboard!

(Wait a minute-what's your last name? )
