spaceweather.com
Great site for information on solar activity, sun spots, Northern Lights, etc.

If you have a shortwave radio that has continuous tuning and AM or SSB reception modes, tune in on 2.5, 5.0Mhz (evenings/nights), 10,15 and 20Mhz (days) to the time/frequency standards station WWV. Listen at 18 min. past each hour (24/7) and you will hear a report on the sunspot number for the day and other info relevant to geomagnetic storms, auroa, etc. If you don't have one, small portables are available for under $100 U.S. You can also visit the WWV station on the web for more details on their broadcasts. Hello Everyone.

I usually lurk around in skeptics forums, but decided that since Phil is coming to London soon, I'll get all the good gossip from here.

Sorry about that important fact I forgot to consider. Yes, you might be able to recieve WWV across the big pond but marginally at best? Indeed, do use spaceweather.com for the same info. Mr Q

Hello everyone !

My name is Laura, I am 18 years old and I am studying English Philology at university.

I joined this site because I am very interested in astronomy. I like swimming, playing tennis and Le Tour de France.

Basically that's all.

See you in the boards

Default Intro...

Hi all,

I started with astronomy when I first gazed the heavens. It was a view that demanded questions. Questions that hurt my brain after too much thought. The first obvious question was, "How am I connected?"

Occular astronomy started with the purchase of my first refractor telescope in 75' and views of the moon. First I was blown away by all the craters, but I was really excited by the movement of the moon. I had to keep up with it. The motions of the universe hit home that day! That telescope failed soon after in 76'. My first serious scope was purchased in 2003, a Meade ETX-90EC. Now I have a Meade 8" LX200 GPS UHTC, Orion 80ED refractor, Orion SVP mount, 25" Obsession truss dob, #1754 AN/SC. I am currently thinking seriously thinking about a PST.

Grew up in Texas, (the milky way was stunning in my childhood, now long gone at home) joined the U.S. Coast Guard and after 20 years retired to Southern Maryland where I have worked as a "Facility Manager" for the last 10 years at Historic St. Mary's City Museum, Maryland's first Capital.

Thanks for viewing,

David Robinson

My name is Josh Miller. I live in Carthage, NY and have a pretty horrible telescope at the moment. I'm saving up the money I make from my job though for a way better one. I'm 16 and have an extreme passion for Astronomy. In my school I defend the Moon Landings to the death. There are many hoax believers there but I've also turned many of them into Moon Landing Believers by showing them Phil Plait's wonderful debunking page of the Moon landing 'Hoax'. My email is solidbismuth@gmail.com. I'm glad to have joined this forum. Thank you.

Hi, just joined the forum today and thought I'd say hello. I'm a retired engineer. Always had an interest in science, science fiction and astronomy, but never had the time to indulge this hobby (or passion or maybe obsession!) and throughout my career usually lived in major, light polluted cities, e.g. Houston, Dallas, etc.

Retired a few years ago and moved to relatively clear sky area, and took up this hobby.

Looking forward to this board

Hi all.

I just joined to point out some papers recently published at NASA and elsewhere.

I come from the UK and spent my 20ies and 30ies in marine salvage when I first experienced zero light pollution.

I come to this area of research via the mad notion that mankind has changed the climate (and can somehow change it back) but that the Sun has no influence.

I guess solar physicists don't get out much. I am nearly 60 and remember when I could spend months outside (with no sunblock) and merely be brown at the end of an (admittedly English) summer. Nowadays (though not so much the last 4-5 years funnily) I feel the prickly sensation of burning as soon as I step outdoors and will turn red after a couple of hours. Doubtless down to ozone depletion.

Anyway, from the above you may guess where I am going to be found most on this board (-;

Under a lot of sunblock and a parasol?

That's the good thing about being a stargazer. I've never been moon burned.

Hi guys

I'm Jon from Montreal. I've had an interest in Science and Astronomy since I was a little kid. I've been reading the BA blog for several months and just decided out of the blue to try the forums out! So far so good.
