Default Princess Bride: the musical

Guettel and Goldman to Team on Princess Bride Musical

Quote:
Composer Adam Guettel and screenwriter William Goldman will collaborate on a musical version of the hit fairy tale film "The Princess Bride," the New York Post reported.

The 1987 Rob Reiner-directed, Goldman-penned movie fits the teasing description Guettel gave for his next project, while speaking backstage at the 2005 Tony Awards. While hesitant to specifically name his next musical due to "legal reasons," he did say it would have a "fairy tale" nature and would involve "a lot of swordfighting."

You're kidding, me Candy, right?

It's one of the silliest, funniest likeable movies I've ever seen. People have been quoting here occasionally. If you were in Toronto, I'd lend you a copy.

Buy it, rent it, whatever, just watch it. I guarantee you'll love it!

Hey, I live under a rock. I'll try to find it at the Super Market for purchase. I just don't get out much. I don't have any friends here in Chicago.

You'd have to live under a rock to have not seen it, at least if you had the same circle of acquaintance as I. (I think they'll actually kick you out of faire if you haven't seen Princess Bride or Monty Python and the Holy Grail. They'll at least point and laugh, unless you're under the age of about twelve.)

LOL

I've seen Monty Python (every one of those movies over and over again).

Maybe, if it's a big success they can turn then turn it into a film....again!

The film was fun and had a great cast, but come on. First THE PRODUCERS, now this? Apparently just simply remaking a popular film won't do anymore. It's time to go post-post-modern into a kind of mobius strip universe of one idea recycled and reworked over and over until the audience member himself dies and is replaced in his seat by his own offspring, ad infinitum.

I'll second that. Also, hit the library or the bookstore and get the book, as well. They did a very good job of faithfully rendering the book as a movie. Some stuff got left out, but that's to be expected.

Billy Crystal as Miracle Max is a hoot!

I've never seen any of the Star Wars flicks, Harry Potter movies, or those really famous flicks on the hobbits and stuff.

HOBBITS AND STUFF - is that the Princess Bride?

I know, I'll start running now!

I hadn't seen or heard of that movie until first year uni... it's a good movie.

I wonder if the musical rendition will be as good as the musical rendition of Evil Dead 1&2?

Thank you, dakini. I don't feel so bad now for not knowing.

Okay, I have seen the tabloid shows. That one kid is the son of darn it (I can't think) from the Princess Bride. Apparently, he doesn't have a great relationship with his mother. I understand this part!

You will come November. But definitely watch the movie if you get the chance - it's wonderful!

Default You keep using that word...

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means

I picked the movie up on a whim when I was about 12 without knowing anything about it. Suffice to say, that was one of the best Saturday afternoons I ever spent watching movies.

"You mean, you'll put down your rock and I'll put down my sword, and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people? "

Buttercup: We'll never survive.
Westley: Nonsense. You're only saying that because no one ever has.

Prince Humperdinck: Surrender.
Westley: You mean you wish to surrender to me? Very well, I accept.

Let me 'splain. [pause] No, there is too much. Let me sum up.

I never thought about it till now, but it does seem that the same people that can quote Python also can quote Princess Bride.
