Interesting suggestions - a mixture of "Yeah, that's a good'un!", "What on earth is that?" and "No way!"
I think "I'm in love with my car" was a good suggestion - actually a rather good song IMO, and I'm not even a Queen fan. "Forever Autumn" - I'm especially fond of that song specifically because there is nothing in it that suggests there's an invasion from Mars going on. The Smiths didn't do many love songs? What about "Reel Around The Fountain"? "Hand in Glove"? And how about some reasons why you think a love song hits the spot? For my own part... "Wuthering Heights" captures some of the desperate passion and doomed romanticism of the novel. "You've lost that loving feeling" - we've all been there, haven't we? You try to pretend it's going to be like it was before, but you know it won't be. The song itself is singer-proof - even the version done by The Human League is good! "Love will tear us apart" - especially for the lyric, "That something so good just can't function no more." "Song to the Siren" - little-known but has a cult following. An abridged version was produced for the trailer of the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (a movie which, I hasten to add, is of no interest to me). Great lyrics inspired by The Odyssey: "Long afloat on shipless oceans I did all my best to smile Till your singing eyes and fingers Drew me loving into your isle... Should I stand 'midst the breakers Or should I lie with Death my bride..." |

On the same theme, 'My Mistake' by Split Enz. Love it! I'll throw in another vote for 'Forever Autumn'. Justin Hayward is capable of so much emotion in his voice and the sentiments are very touching.

On the subject of funny (odd?), when I came back to this thread, the first Google ad was for a concert at the Albert Hall in London by Neil and Tim Finn - which I went to in March this year.

Reaching back a little with a couple of these ...
![]() Without You - Harry Nilsson (or Mariah Carey, whichever you prefer) When I Need You - Leo Sayers Rest Your Love on Me - The Bee Gees Love Is In the Air - John Paul Young If You're Not the One - Daniel Beddingfield And if you want sappy love songs, surely Barry Manilow is the king of those!
