Ah, but the English came up with the expression "pardon my French." Remember, England and France have been at war with one another many, many times over the last thousand years. Calling bad things French was an insult to the thing and the French, all at once. (A related term is the old-fashioned slang of "French letter" for condom.)

And along the same lines, the saying, `Its all Greek to me' is I assume more of the same from the English???

Default All Greek to Me

Aparrently, it dates from Mediaeval times in Britain and describes something that cannot be read (i.e. incomprehensible language):

Excellent! I've made noises with guitar, and played the fool many times ... but a bass player first-timing on accordion? Curiouser and curiouser ...

Well, at least I have the French accent down. I can't speak french, but I CAN speak french with an excellent accent. (Interesting, neh?)

I seem to have a talent for accents, even though I speak only English and Bad English.

one thing I remember when I went to France 15years ago was that you don't seem to have baked beans(except with sausages in).

We don't really worry all that much on such issues here in Oz, either - it's just that I remembered this is a PG-rated forum with a large American audience ...
Of course, you might consider to visit us in the Land Down Under ... to see how we cope with heat waves, extended droughts, keep our vinyards going, that sort of thing ...

Wow, the list is getting long. Some of the names I don't recognize. I do love associating a face to the poster. My favorite are the photos with children. It's like looking at little clones.

If you search around on the frappr, then you get a taste of how large memberships can get. I saw one that had over 1000 members. Oh, this should be a challenge to the 10K on the BAUT.

It was certainly a pleasant experience to associate your face and name ...

Don't have any ... children, that is ... but during a couple of photo essays (one at a city fair; one at a folk festival), there were children in the mix ... and they do make for interesting characters ... now, I don't know what to do with those images ... I'm not famous enough for them to be 'art'.

Then you'll have fun trying to find your pin in the crowd - I had to zoom in to the max to see that I'd been buried under Reacher (I think that was the name) - and I don't even live in Perth anymore; it's just that that was the closest place I could put my pin ...

Yours, too! You have a similar look to a much younger Michael Caine.
