I see it, too. I started a thread in BAUT. It appears to have started at 3:49 PM CST (or shortly afterwards). Time is now 5 hours off with posts and their location.

Default Christmas

Now that Christmas is just around the corner, i thought it would be nice to know what everyone has planned for Christmas. And also what everyone has plan to make for Christmas dinner.

I thought this would also be a good way of getting some ideas of what i will make for my Christmas dinner. I plan on making turkey and already bought one. But i am not sure what i will be making to go with it. I would like something new this year (since this year i will be having alot of company and family over) and not the same old stuff that i usually make. I usually make a salad, mashed potatoes and gravy and also i make dessert that will usually be a pie or cake. But if anyone has any other suggestions that will go fine with turkey, i would love to hear it. The turkey i bought this year is also different from the ones i usually buy. This turkey is a Northern Pride turkey that comes already injected with up to 8% of a solution of turkey broth, salt, sugar and other flavorings. And since i never bought a turkey already injected with solution, i would also like an opinion on if it is good or not.

My parents will be coming up for a visit, as usual. Other than having dinner with my brother and his wife, we don't have anything planned. My wife has to work on holidays, so we tend not to do anything terribly spectacular.

Default Christmas chow

Titana. Instead of cranberry sauce try lingonberry for a little change, or turnips with the mashed potatoes, mashed the same way, then folded in but not homogeneous, like marble bread dough....and chestnut based-stuffing. You pick up the Italian chestnuts in the Super....roast them in the oven, score them with a sharp knife, chop and add to stuffing mix...MMMMM.
You can always make a turkey salsa with cranberries, Mandarin oranges, mangoes, and fresh sage...mmmmmm.Pete.

P.S. Tried the Christmas goose once....not that good. Fatty, tough, not much white meat...most disappointing meal in years.

Are you referring to the sauce that go´s over the turkey? And can you tell me how it is made?

Thanks....Titana

I'll be celebrating the solstice twice with asatru blot's, this saturday and next wednesday, with different groups.
Then christmas eve with my parents.
Christmas day isn't celebrated in Denmark though the 25th and 26th are holy days.

Salsa needs to be sweet, sour, and spicy. Take ~ a cup of cranberries (whole).Heat the cranberries in a sauce pan over low heat, with a little water...a few tablespoons, and some sugar, a few teaspoons...till the cranberries burst. Cool to room temp. Add chopped Mandarin orange slices...~ 10. half a chopped up peeled mango. Add fresh torn sage to taste. The tart flavors of the orange, and cranberry mix well with the more muted but fruity mango, and sage is the traditional herb for spicing turkey. There are lots of cranberry-orange recipes....the mango adds a little Southwestern touch. I know you're in Baja. Had this with my oldest daughter, at a restaurant in Balboa Park, San Diego while visiting for lunch one day...over chicken. Really unusual. I don't have the recipe....tinker with it for a bit till it makes you happy, and there you have it Titana's Turkey Topping. Might need a touch of salt + pepper, and a little olive oil.

Default Re: Christmas

Since I'm not an xian I don't observe xmas.

I will celebrate the winter solstice on December 21st. Great night for astronomy, one of the longest of the year!

On the 25th, I will probably fix my traditional New England Boiled Dinner, and then enjoy basketball and football on the TV, and Mahler and Ives on the stereo. Might pop 2001 into the DVD player to wrap things up.

I get to go home! First time since October. I'm off on the 20th to laze around and generally be a blight on society and my family until the 9th.

As for Christmas itself, we'll do the regular gift thing in the morning then head over to my aunt and uncles' house in Gatineau for dinner. We always have a French-Canadian dish known as Sea Pie. I have no idea what's in it, but it's dang good.

I'm not a Christian, or any other religion for that matter, but I do celebrate Xmas. It is the annual family gathering. I travel from the midwest to the Washington DC area where I grew up. My wife always creates some sort of novelty gifts for the rest of the family - always designed to in some way disparage me. SOme sort of photoshop work on my image then put in a snow globe or some such. The picture of me and Tammy Fay Bakker arm in arm was particularly disturbing. Maybe I will get her a jogging suit with a large orange triangle on the back.

My sister hosts the group. She wondered if it would be OK to serve beef instead of turkey. Tuna sandwich for all I care. Cranberry sauce is a tradition, but I leave it in the can. I don't like the stuff, so I set the can out, then put it away for next year.
