Default Hockey conspiracy

Here's a brand new conspiracy theory I made up last night.

Allegations about a gambling ring run by Rick Tocchet of the Phoenix Coyotes is entirely fabricated and is only designed to distract Wayne Gretzky and the Canadian Olympic hockey team so they won't win the gold medal during the upcoming tournament.

This is clearly so obvious that anyone disagreeing is clearly in on the scam.

I think Nasa is behind this, with the help of the British Royal family

WHat dya think??

Clearly the british royal family, being lizard people, have a dislike of ice. They must be trying to destroy the sport of hockey. I predict they go after curling next.

In all honesty, I think it's more appropriate in BABBling than CT.

I don't presume to speak for the remainder of the continent, but it is indeed the only one I care about.

Go Leafs! Go Team Canada!

I try to follow downhill, slalom, GS, moguls, freestyle skiing (bring back ski ballet!), figure skating, some curling, luge, bobsled, skeleton (when I happen to catch these events). With the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics going in under an hour's time, a smorgasbord of events will be on the air, for the next couple of weeks!

I think hockey is to winter sports what football is to fall and baseball is to spring/summer.

A religion.

Whenever we're away
People always say
That hockey is the sport to which we flock.
But if you actually play (Participate),
then Curling wins the day (It's really great).
In Canada, more people curl than hock!

Traditionally, it is THE winter sport for the northern bit of the Eastern Seaboard and the Great Lakes area. Testing my memory here, but I believe the original 6 teams were Boston, New York, Detroit, Montreal, Chicago, and Toronto. (Or was it another place instead of Toronto - maybe Philly or Minnesota?). I only remember those days vaguely.

I definitely remember my dad & uncles being aghast when hockey franchises started popping up in places like Florida and California. It was like someone was blasphemizing their religion.

In Wisconsin and Minnesota, especially the northern hinterlands - it is a formal religion.

Hockey is only worthwhile if it is Olympic hockey. Everything else is just barbaric spectacle.

I usually only ever watched the highlights looking for a good brawl. Interestingly, it appears the NHL is the only professional sport in the US where felony assault charges have been filed for playing the game in the spirit it seems to be intended.

Yup, it was Toronto, we haven't won a Stanley Cup since expansion.

The Quebec Major-Junior League and Women's Olympic are about the only hockey worth watching in my mind. I don't really bother with the Million-Dollar-Crybabies anymore. I've been more-or-less fed up since the first strike.

Its true that at some games you go to a fight and a hockey game nearly breaks out but a good game of hockey in the NHL or many other national/regional leagues can have it all. Speed, power, channelled (and sometimes not so channelled) aggression,skill...the lot basically.

Those are the original six teams though curiously they werent the first 6 NHL teams despite the title. There werent even 6 teams to begin with there were only 5. The Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Wanderers, Ottawa Senators, Quebec Bulldogs, and Toronto Arenas though the Bulldogs fell apart financially before the season started and the wanderers arena burnt down forcing an end to their season. So the first NHL season finished with only 3 teams only two of whom are in 'the original six'

The current Senators are a fairly recent team. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't count them as being part of your "original 5" or the more conventionally known "original 6".

They arent the same Senators. I was caught out by that when i first read it. The current team of that name was founded in 1992. The original Senators played from the late 1800s to 1935 before moving to St Louis and finally folding. Neither Senators team is part of the original 6 but the original Ottawa Senators are one of the teams that played in the NHLs first season.

HAH!!! Excellent theory.

It was a bit of a relief to find that Gretzky was not involved at all, and that no charges will be laid against his wife.

I have now changed the theory...it was the Swiss who pulled off the distraction...

Uggh...not a great show by the Canucks. Well done Swiss hockey team! (2-0 Swiss)

Well, of course the British Royal Family are involved ... clearly they are sore because the rest of the elite hockey world refuses to let the GB national team into their little Olympic club on the highly dubious grounds that they are ... well ... pants.

Go Team Finland!

23rd in the world and only the top 11 go to this stage of competition.
We're not great (That 1936 gold medal is looking a bit old now ) but not utterly pants either. Maybe just slightly pants...
In 2005 we won the group A division I championship at the world championships so theres improvement. But we arent competing with the big boys yet (what we won is one division down from that IIRC). The only UK involvement this year is Joy Tottman who reffereed a bunch of games including the womens Bronze Medal game. She referees some mens games here and is pretty decent. Looks dwarfed by the players though!

The conspiracy is that the government decided that to gain government funding we'd have to be in with a shot at medals or thereabouts. We arent, so no funding, so precious little funds to improve, so we dont get in with a shot at medals, so no fund...... A bit of a viscious circle.
So the conspiracy is between the govenrment sport mob and Ice Hockey Uk who are not on that many UK hockey fans christmas card lists! This is being funded by NASA, the illuminati, erm the masons, the lizard people and some other groups like the grand order of the antidiluvean water buffalos in order to stop Team GB romping to victory....or something like that!
