The page on "The History of Speed Reading" is UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
Maybe they got a little ahead of themselves.Your speed, KnoSee, sounds just fine to me. The site seems to imply some advantage to burning through text. PSHAW!! I also think ToSeek should try switching to decaffeinated. ![]() I'm a voracious reader, but I prefer to savor the artistry of a true wordsmith. When I come across a juicy passage....I reread the sucker! Sometimes I even read it aloud, just to allow my ears to appreciate the author's style. Nothing satisfies me more than when I come across something so well-written I don't want other people to read it...I want to read it to them myself. Of course, the sample text the site used was the most absolutely uninteresting eight paragraphs this side of an inter-office memo on TPS reports! They should give you some credit just for stickin' it out to the end. For purely functional reading like that, the simple "first line/last line of each paragraph" trick usually works fine. |

Haven't taken the test, but that's because my reading speed varies based on subject matter and authorial style, so I doubt there's a test that could properly analyze it. However, if all I'm doing is reading (like while I'm in the tub, say), I can read maybe 150 pages on average in an hour--and my comprehension is so good that I tend to spot continuity errors.

I did the comprehension test before reading as something of a control -- got 8/11. Read at 470 wpm (a little slow because I was chatting with someone on IM at the same time, had to scroll, missed the stop button).
Anyway, after reading, I did the comprehension test again. This time I got 7/11. What does that mean? ![]() Also, did anyone notice that the whole reading thing was leading up to "buy our software"?

Wow some of you read really fast! I guess im just fast cause im still young and all. but i was going to start a thread about how to improve like my patience or something but i just wanted to know how do you people read so fast!? and still have comprehension!?
I would want to know how, but im not going to buy some book or program. -=-=-=-=-=-=- also go here: https://www.asseenontvnetwork.com/vcc/eyeq/eyeq/128320/ and try a demo of this 'reading speed increaser' (demo on the left column) i tried it; and to my surprise i actually increased my reading speed by 5 more words per minute. and if you ask me, i could make that program within an hour using an animation maker. |

I got 978 wpm and 91% comprehension (10/11).
When I was in sixth grade, we all did a reading speed test that adjusted your timed speed to reflect comprehension, sort of like typing tests adjust your typing speed for errors. On that one I clocked 610 wpm. The test we did in school was developed by professionals for educational purposes, while the test on the Web site was developed by a company selling training software. I'm a bit more inclined to place confidence in the former. I think I go slower with material that actually holds my interest. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to read through Verne's The Mysterious Island a couple of nights ago.
