Are you on your own or living with parents/relatives/friends/SO? Plus, are you in school (HS, college, post-grad)? If so, what's your concentration or major? How are you doing with your studies? Please excuse the questions, but there's some curiosity here, none of which is meant to be intrusive or threatening.. ![]()

With all that's going on in your life, especially the desire to learn astronomy, you need to do something really hard. That's to get off drugs. You've already noted that what seemed significant when you are high is quite different when you come down. Look at that as an impediment to learning astronomy. Math is a key to learning astronomy and any other physics-related subject. Trying to learn math with a fuzzy head doesn't work. Space science requires a sober demeanor in order to be understood. It also takes a lot of work and perseverance. There are no shortcuts. If you have chemicals distracting you, your wish to learn physics like the string theory won't be fulfilled. Time to make a decision. What do want more? Remaining spaced out, or the incredible, real, profound satisfaction of really knowing something about physics, to the point where you build on it and steer toward string theory, where new ideas are always welcome and original thought leads to breakthroughs that sometimes make their originators famous. The feeling you get when you've done that makes any chemically induced high look like a worthless spurt, which it is. For your ADD and dyslexia, check with any doctor or the emergency room in your area. They should know where inexpensive or free treatments, therapy, and counseling are available for those disorders. Don’t take “no” for an answer. I'm not speaking rhetorically here. I come from an impoverished childhood where there was no support from either parent. But somehow I persevered and managed to master a number of disciplines. It was all on my own. Heck, if someone as thick as I could do it, then the odds are definitely in your favor. Just something to think about, OK? Mak.
