Is the song you're referring to Mind's Eye by chance?
Wolfmother are big down here banquo. They're a really rocking band, and you'd swear they're the sons of Led Zeppelin wouldn't you? I can tell you this, in last year's Triple J Hottest 100 countdown, Wolfmother had, IIRC, 6 songs in the Top 100, and 3 songs in the Top 10. Which was an all-time record for the countdown (which has been running for about 15 years and voted for by basically any Australians under 30 who likes their contemporary rock/alternative/cutting edge music) This is the website of Triple J, and there's sure to be stuff on there about Wolfmother and their latest songs. Triple J Radio Triple J Hottest 100 - 2005 Hottest 100 day, January 26th - Our National Day, is a big party day - usually around the barbie with the radio blaring and lots of beer being consumed. Triple J is the National Youth Radio Station, government funded, which actually works really well. Nearly all original Australian music gets played on Triple J before commercial stations pick it up - the commercial stations just don't take any risks and tend to play whatever music is being sent down the pipes by Universal, BMG, Sony or whatever - but the big labels are rarely, very rarely, played on Triple J so its variety of music is a lot greater - certainly its a Beyonce and co. free zone. I encourage you to sample some of the other artists featured on the Hottest 100, although some of them are quite shocking, some of them are darned good.

Looking back at the 2005 List, I have to say I'm a big fan of End of Fashion - Oh Yeah & Rough Diamond in particular, and also Little Birdy. Little Birdy have a really cute little song called Beautiful to Me.
It is a bit of an old song, but, I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor - Arctic Monkeys is very mid90s Britpop revivalist, which is right down my alley as well.
