Dump the penny and the nickel (both cost more than their face value to produce) and create $1 and $2 coins instead, like the Canadians. Plus get rid of the dollar bill so people have to go to the dollar coin.
I hate pennies.

The reason for eliminating the bills is one I too have mentioned before - people simply won't choose coins over bills, so they'll need to be forced to if it's going to happen. As for the OP, I always spend my change. The only time I ever have more than a dollar's worth of change is if I went out and forgot to bring my change with me. ![]()

Currently the penny and nickle are costing more than they are worth to produce. Go with the Euro style. Small penny and small nickle, and have a $1 and $2 coin. I was fascinated by the German Euro when I went there in 2002 - right after they had made the switch from the DM. Pennies and nickles are huge in size compared to what they are worth, and vending machines won't take pennies.

Well, no reason for me to be surprised. There were indications the house was prone to that problem. I'll just pick up a dehydrator for the bathroom, should go a long way towards preventing additional problems until we have time to replace the baseboards properly. Otherwise, the basement is cool and comfortable, and the nightly thunderstorms are rather pretty. ![]()

Dump it all! I rarely pay for anything via cash. Always credit, and I have a nice neat highly secure record online any time I need to review it. And if my wallet's stolen, I simply report it right away and am out just $50, which is a lot less than what most people carry in their wallet.

Stores don't like people using credit on small items because the overhead they pay to the credit companies (which they have to eat) is a significant fraction of the total price. I pay credit for most things, but I start transitioning to cash at about the $20 level or below.

As far as $1 coins versus $1 bills, what BigDon said about pants falling down. Unless they start making the coins about the size of a dime.
