Default laughing and your health

Couple of times even doctors told the importance of laughing. Laughing is much useful to release the stress and tensions on heart too. We have also heard that in this world there are lot of clubs are working on the "laughing", they have made laughing clubs even for the retired persons.

For childrens, parents, in family, in classroom, on stage, every where laughing is much necessary to act easily.

What benefits do you think in laughing? and your own experiences!

What exactly laugh works, how it is scientifically helpful for our health. only smile is a different thing. Loudly laughing is much welcome.

Simple question to you, for how many times do you laugh daily?

Something called Soap appeared on late night
television 28 years ago and when I watched them
I found myself doubled up unable to catch my
breath for 10 seconds or more. The gags were
top class! Nowadays if that happens I have a
bad feeling of choking Anyways I have heard
it all now! A well fed and comfortable baby
seems to have an inate ability to gurgle
happily and loving parents like to exacerbate
this by pulling unexpected faces etc. Then
when grown up a bit it is unexpected punch lines
that nudge this happy tendency. Well thats my
theory and I am sticking to it!

I have heard that laughter is the best medicine. I presume that this was determined after double blind trials that contrasted it with crying.

An interesting observation is that people usually laugh when something undesirable happens to someone else.

Does that mean we're all inherently sadistic? Or are we laughing out of relief that it didn't happen to us?

thanks argos, ronald and mugaliens, for a great smile here. once upon a time 2 mens were just laughing infront of their home, and I was just went towards them to ask one address, but these two fellows were busy in laughing, when I ask, Sir, I am wrong? they said no with keeping mum only they answered with their neck and head turn left and right, then I went to third person, that fellow told me that Sunil you were reached to the wrong persons, who were substantially laughing, they are psychic in behaviour, I said to him O, wrong number I have dialed. Anyway, the laughing for 24 hours means not that good, but frequently laughing is much necessary, even the blood pressure also maintain by laughing, even our stomatch muscles also gets a great excercise. Laughing by psychic way must be avoid by everyone. There are different opinions of psychologists on "laughing activity of a comman man".

Oh, Pete, I love that show! They've got the series on sale at my local Best Buy, and I think about getting it every single time I walk by. Young Billy Crystal, ye gods!

I have a friend with asthma who says he judges how good a comedy movie is by how many times he has to pull out his inhaler.

Thanks Toseek, I think in asthamatic condition laughing may be repeated, and sometime it also create few trouble for such fellow in laughing, and repeatedly he has to use the inhaler. In South part of India, one persons gives a special medicine on a full moon day "including his medicine in one small live fish", that fish works in the wind pipe and went towards the linear portion which connects with stomatch. That fish clears the path which is
mostly covered with a sticky cuff, later pataint gets relief.

I think you're referring to Miss Kraus who wasn't a character in Soap, but instead in the spinoff Benson; the same actress was in a couple of episodes of Soap, but there her character was Ingrid Swenson.

I saw Soap the first time around and found it hilarious, then it ran again about 5 years ago and suddently it was just funny.
All the nuttiness had gone because all the controversial stuff had by then become commonplace and thus boring.

Laughter has been the subject of many philosophical studies, from Socrates to St Augustine to Nietzsche and beyond. An interesting material on "The Role of Laughter in the Good Life: A Philosophical Examination"

Thanks Argos, this is a nice collection of the great referrals at one site. Yet I have not read the complete topics covered there, but I am very frankly speaking that very first time reading a "philosophical examination of laughter",

Thanks once again for the linking. In other way besides fun laughter is great one and it can bring lot of joy in lonely people, even in the blind childrens and adults too, by showing them a very joyful dreams presentation through a nice laughter. The blinds are much more intelligent, I have seen lot of examples, even their poetic sense is much great one. Because they cannot see the smile on our faces, hence to create some jokes and comedy always gives them a lot of real joy, and we must participate with them. laughter can also increase the "interest" in the routine life.

Yeah, some philosophers showed a strong criticism towards laughter, regarding it as a display of lower instincts. A sensible person shouldn´t laugh, according to the critics. From that link:

Quote:
Aristotle would also reject the idea that laughter serves as an important part of the fulfillment of the individual. For Aristotle, laughter is inherently wrong and hateful.
Humberto Eco also features a tasty dissertation on laughter in his "The Name of the Rose".

I admit that I haven't seen it in about 10 years, since they ran it on Comedy Central (soooo much better than Reno 911), but I did grow up in a liberal California household, and therefore not much was left that was controversial to me. I still thought it was hugely funny. But maybe I'll put it on my Netflix list before I buy it.

I Loved Soap, the whole devil child & Bart the alien stories were great!
Benson the butler was wicked with his sarcasm & I liked his spin off too
I don't think I would find it as funny today though.

..Also may I please add...
.....Arthur Koestler analysed 'laughter' in his 'The Act of Creation'....the trilogy is exceptional, excellent.

I admire Mr Koestler's writing very much

Sunil, if you get a chance, please read it.
I reckon the books are very difficult to find, as they are out of print.
You might luckily find it / them in some book store

I grew up with the loony humour of The Goodies. I heard about a woman who thanked them because her terminally ill husband had died while laughing his head off!

Try to see if they are available through your library by interlibrary loan.

Just for curiosity, I checked and found that 14 libraries in Denmark has that book, in 9 different editions, I'm requesting it now, then we can see how soon I'll get it
