Default The First Rain of The Season...

God, I love it. Unlike most of the U.S. out here in California we have a wet and dry season. Most years it's no rain after May 'til well, October. You can almost hear all the plants not actually tended by man sighing with relief.

At another forum I commented that without summer rain the sidewalks leading up to the elementary schools around here start to get a build up of sugar due to all the dropped candies and spilled sodas and juices. I proposed that this might form the basis of an unlooked at eco-system.

Well its 2:11 am local, time for sleep. I always sleep better listening to rain and cars moving down wet roadways. Goodnight. See ya in the morning.

Sure it's not just fog condensing on various elevated vertical and horizontal structures and running off, while providing the aural and physical equivalent of rain?

Been there, seen that.

aaahhh.....sound of rain falling on trees and other vegetation, bed time, sublime way to fall asleep...
my baby: how does it rain daddy?
me: oh, when the angels have had their bath, they pull the plug...for want of a better explanation!
so every now and again, he wants them to pull the plug.....sheer joy!

have a nice day, y'all!

You know, people asked me why I moved to Washington, and you've just answered it, Don. We have rain off and on all year. It's beautiful.

Until the mold and mildew start growing.

But a quick climb of Mt. Rainier while it's still dormant will take care of that!

The time spent on my front porch, in my special chair with my doggies at my side, reading, while the cacaphony of rain drowns out all other sounds, are the most memorable and are looked forward to, always.

I thought that October in Ohio was the advent of the snow season, usually preceded by a few decent ice storms...

Or are you near Cincinnati, which is really North Kentucky, not Ohio?

Objections? Check the location of the Cincinnati International Airport.

Thanks for the reminder that snow is on the way, but not yet. I live only 1.3 miles from lLake Erie in the nursery belt that does have the same average climate as Cincinnati.

Has the price of antifreeze increased in the last year?

Also, are you on the east side of Cleveland, anywhere near Metals Park?

(Sorry, haven't checked a map on Madison yet. To me that's still a CT town on Lon Gisland Sound east of New Haven.)

Snow hits the hill tops here just before the Equinox. First snow in the valley will be (Prediction) the new moon weekend in October. Okay sure one year only rained like a bugger, but it's still 8 of 9 since I started keeping track.

Nope, had a system move in. I watched it approach on radar for several hours prior to its arrival, I was looking forward to it so much.

The most depressing part (of so many!) of visiting my mother back home in California for Christmas is that there still isn't snow even on the mountains. I'm spoiled by living within sight of glaciers.

It's different for me, I like having warm, dry days. We had our first rain last night too. But I prefer the weather in Sacramento over San Francisco. San Fran. is too windy and cold for me. My biggest complaint with Sacramento weather is when we get into alternating winter rain and fog.

1) Don't know

2) far east, half way to PA from Cleveland.

I'm with you on that, only I see the effects of glaciers daily not the glacier. I do not mind the snow because on our farm it stays pristine and untrambled and if the wind isn't blowing the front porch is still a nice place to be with a hot drink, maybe spiked a little bit.

There are glaciers up on the mountain, which is tall enough so that you can see it from here. The first year I lived here, we had snow a couple of times at sea level before I went home, which just made the contrast of the snowless mountains so much worse.

How often have you had a decent amount of snow though? The Willamette Valley really only gets a good amount of snow every 5-10 years or so. Most the time it snows, it doesn't stick.

As for rain, well, it just doesn't rain right out here. That's probably what I miss the most from Oregon.

Not often, I'll admit, though the second winter I lived in Washington, we got three feet in Port Angeles, where I lived at the time. The entire city shut down, and then all the snow melted in about a day and a half, which caused almost as many problems. I don't think we get snow as often here as they do in some parts of northwestern Oregon, which probably has to do with elevation, though I don't actually know.

most of the poets starts their writing work when the first rains falls, it is normally observed. the smell of land is so nice when first rain falls, the birds looks more happy when first rain falls, the farmers looks pretty happy when first rain falls, the public fills much cool when first rain falls on the earth. The first rains are like a beautiful orchestra started by the clouds on earth by falling water, lower, medium and maximum shaped thickness of the rain-lines on earth. Besides it the lightning and thundering of clouds are just like the cidrum and clarinet with a noise of big band in a 7 track Dolby sound system.

first rains are even nice to take a first bath in this rain, the old people always says that first rains are useful to keep our health good round the year, if we take a bath under the fresh showers of first rains.
