It would be suicide for N.Korea to use their nukes on anyone, and I doubt Kim is so insane that he doesn't know that. This thing is just a bargaining chip, just like every other nuclear weapon on the planet.

Sometimes I wish that the Nuclear Holocaust would happen already, and all the world's worries get washed away with the flame and radiation of the bombs...

Then I realize that that's stupid, and just wish that it would wash away the people that cause me to worry.

Then I realize that's callous.

Then I realize that I don't care.

Then I realize that that's callous again.

Then I do a backflip.

Then I forget about it and try to get an A in my classes.

Hum,
it seems that the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO) that monitors for nuclear tests, and has about 200 stations worldwide, can detect subtle differences in the seismic waves that can pin down whether it was from a nuclear device.

"A nuclear blast also gives off a clear signature - a clear graph of peaks and curves - that differentiates it from other kinds of shocks. We'll have the confirmation soon" - Friedrich Steinhaeusler, professor of physics at Salzburg University.

Though I suspect you are correct, I wish I was that confident of Kim's sanity.

If North Korea really has tested a nuclear weapon, all even slightly suspicious installments in the country should be bombed to dust before they have time to build any more nukes.

N-Korea has also sold nuclear technology to foreign countries who want nukes, like Iran and other islamistic groups. One reason more to bomb them.

Hum,
just for the record, 34 countries possess either nuclear power or research reactors, have ratified the test ban treaty, which bans all nuclear explosions, unfortunately there are certain countries such as North Korea, Israel, China, India, Pakistan, and the United States that have not signed up.

First the launch missle tests then the do a nke test. Clearly somebody wants to flex their muscles in front of the world. I suppose they're entitled but it would have been nice if they'd used the money for something more important at home. The only thing about a country run by old codgers is said codgers may decide they have nothing to lose by blowing off a nuke or two, just to feel like a big shot. They know if they do nuke a neighbor, no matter which one they choose, somebody will retaliate. It's just a matter of whether or not they care. I hope they do.

Yes, because escalating global nuclear weapon conflict is a smart idea.

Global Thermonuclear War -- you can't win the game, but you can make sure the other side loses the most!

I say we let Russia, China and France deal with it.

I imagine that if we had this conversation in 1992 prior to the first gulf war

Would that be first First Gulf War (1980-1988) or the second First Gulf War (1990-1991)?

Kim has used his power to create a harem of sex slaves, just like king Solomon and other rulers of old. I'd take this as a sign of stability rather than insanity. (Just don't mention his bald spot.) Someone so interested in the pleasures of the flesh probably doesn't want them to come to an end in a hurry.

Note that I'm saying that things are in any way good in North Korea, but I would like to point out that Kim is not Victor Von Doom and the people of North Korea are not minor supporting characters in a comic book, but real flesh and blood people with hopes, loves and dreams, trapped in a situation not of their making. Conditions have improved somewhat for the average person in North Korea. I suggest we let these improvements continue. It seems reasonable to believe the situation will improve with time. It also seems the cheapest and safest course and is supported by South Korea who presumably have given the matter quite a bit of thought.

I, for one, fully endorse ToSeek's inhumanity.
