Thank goodness they haven't been able to build an ICBM, and I'm not sure if the USA is ready to fight a war on 3 fronts ?

I have a question regarding this... Does anyone have a good link to an explanation of how an underground test facility works? I've always been curious how you can set off a nuclear chain reaction (in this case apparently somewhere near a city) and contain it underground.

Wonder what are the chances they'll blow themselves up?

...However, the U.S. Geological Survey said it had detected no seismic activity such as might be expected from a nuclear test on the Korean peninsula within the past 48 hours...Analysts say North Korea probably has enough fissile material to make six to eight nuclear bombs but probably does not have the technology to devise one small enough to mount on a missile. Oops---CNN live just announced that the USGS did record a 4.2 event!

There was also the case of North Korean soldiers flirting with danger in the "no-man's-land" section between North and South Korea - warning shots fired... just what are they up to...?

Should we also be responsible for the drifting fallout that is sure to effect neighbouring countries?

That's a weekly occurrence - though usually it goes without press coverage.

Is it?

Funny, isn't it, that everyday occurances can seem "suspicious" when viewed in isolation

The report I read indicated they were fishing, supposedly a twice yearly occurrence. One wonders if this was perhaps related to nuclear fishin'?

This is actually good news. Better than them having a bomb and not telling anyone about it because they wanted it to be a surprise. (A la Dr Strangelove.)

Now that they have their nuclear deterrent in the open hopefully this will help stabilize the situation. They should feel more secure now and will hopefully put more effort into reforming their economy, which they have been doing at a gradual rate. With luck the people of North Korea will soon see the sort of economic growth they are now seeing in India and which the Chinese have gotten used to.
