I have a question regarding this... Does anyone have a good link to an explanation of how an underground test facility works? I've always been curious how you can set off a nuclear chain reaction (in this case apparently somewhere near a city) and contain it underground.

heres a link from wikipedia about under ground testing, the bomb actually provides all the material for the chain reaction doing underground just contains the reaction.

There was also the case of North Korean soldiers flirting with danger in the "no-man's-land" section between North and South Korea - warning shots fired... just what are they up to...?

That's a weekly occurrence - though usually it goes without press coverage.

Is it?
Funny, isn't it, that everyday occurances can seem "suspicious" when viewed in isolation ![]()

This is actually good news. Better than them having a bomb and not telling anyone about it because they wanted it to be a surprise. (A la Dr Strangelove.)
Now that they have their nuclear deterrent in the open hopefully this will help stabilize the situation. They should feel more secure now and will hopefully put more effort into reforming their economy, which they have been doing at a gradual rate. With luck the people of North Korea will soon see the sort of economic growth they are now seeing in India and which the Chinese have gotten used to. |
