What do you guys think of this new Kona brand coffee?
I'm ambivalent about the flavor, myself. But it is cool that the guy farming it invented this radically more efficient farming method.

Okay, I'll bite.
I don't think there's that much difference between Canadian and US mass market beer. Both taste pretty bad in my opinion. But there are really great microbrews in both countries - and that's what I'll usually aim for. Tim Horton's coffee is terrible. I know this'll get me kicked out of the country for saying that, but we're not so addicted to it over on the West Coast. I was visiting Toronto, and the Tim Horton's cashier wanted to know if I wanted to have a double-double. Not knowing what it was, I said "sure", since that's what everyone else was doing. That's double cream, double sugar. Yuck. I'll drink Starbucks, but their coffee usually tastes burnt to me, so I usually get an Americano. Usually I'll pick another coffee shop over Starbucks if I can. But no matter how much I need a cup, I'll never buy one from Tim Hortons.

http://www.beerritz.co.uk/ but they can't ship to North America. If you ever find yourself in the UK, pay a visit to their shop (on Goodramgate in York, near the cathedral).

When people say 'American beer' and 'American coffee' they're usually talking about Miller, Budweiser, Foldgers, that kind of thing. Those things are to beer and coffee as McDonalds is to cheeseburgers. You have to get real stuff. Good American beer and coffee is pretty similiar to Canadian, while both differ greatly from Australia and Europe.

Two American tourists were driving through Nova Scotia. As they were approaching Shubenacadie (shoe-been-aack-id-dee), they started arguing about the pronunciation of the town's name. They argued back and forth until they stopped for lunch. As they stood at the counter, one tourist asked the [insert favourite hair colour here for appropriate tastelessness] employee, "Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us? Would you please pronounce where we are... ver-r-ry slo-o-owly?
The waitress leaned over the counter and said: "Tiiimmmmm Hoorrrrttoooonnns". Couldn't resist. Every morning as I drive out of town to work I pass the local Tim Horton's, and there is a line of cars wrapped half way around the building. As I sip the coffee I brewed just minutes before I can't help but wonder why those same people are in that line every day, choking on each other's fumes, for what - a double-double?? Good grief. I guess they like a little coffee with their cream and sugar. The only way I'll spend my money on the stuff they serve there is if I'm with a friend and it's place to stop and chat. My daughter works there on weekends and brews pot after pot, but can't stand coffee at all. And as several people have said, Starbucks tastes burned. The beer I drink is from a local brewery, but I generally just have it when the weather is hot and to me it tastes great after a long field day, or at least better than the average fare that is mass produced by the big brewers. If I admitted to the brand, anyone who knows BC beers would know I'm not a connoisseur. . . . |

I prefer home-brewed coffe I grind myslef, although I will occasionally seek out a Second Cup brew. I don;t mind Starbucks, and I'm a little srprised at the nmumber of people who say it tastes burnt to them. Tim Horton's makes possibly the worst coffee of any, and I'll drink one there only when I'm dragged there. Their soups are good though
![]() For beer, I usually drink Kokanee, even though it's not the same since Molson's took them over. I buy it more ourt of habit than anything. We have a good local brewry called Big Rock that makes a number of different beers, from very light to near Guiness dark--but everytime I find one of theirs I like, they stop brewing it. Riccars Red and Alexander Keiths are both ok on occasion. I get a kick out of the Alexander commercials!
