I've always wondered upon whom the effects of the fishing lures is greater: the fish, or the fishers?

Well, when sucessful in a catch, there is nice feeling knowing you were a least smarter than the fish. However, if you consider how much it costs to catch one, then the fish win afterall.

Perhaps you noticed that the blurb in TheLog.com gets it wrong. They state that the device emits sound at frequencies "only fish can hear". Since the frequencies are in the range 100-1000Hz, they are entirely within the range of human hearing.

Apparently they meant that the sounds were at frequencies audible to fish. But it comes off sounding like a piscene version of a dog whistle.

And yes, there is a hobby with more woo woo in it than fishing. Check Randi's postings about audiophiles.

Where would "Randi's postings about audiophiles" be? I've tried to start learning the basics of room sound treatment, but everything I've found out on the subject contradicts something else. And the answer to these problems, from those who are really into the stuff, is always "It's really complicated; get this book". It reminds me of how astrologers pile on layers and layers of "complexity" to make the system big enough, and sufficiently inaccessible to casual amateurs, to rationalize anything they need to. But, apparently until now, I've never seen anyone else say what I've been thinking: that it's all just nonsense...

You pretty much hit it right on the head, Delvo. Keep this paragraph of yours firmly in mind.

A brief search of Randi's site for the term "audiophile" gets us these results.

You can also do a forum search for GSIC or Michael Alba and see some prime examples of Placebos Gone Wild.

The most natural bait I've found to date are quite cheap, and are called "earthworms" and "minnows".

After vast scientific study conducted over the last 15,000 years, it appears they produce exactly the same scent and vibrations as do their natural brethren in the wild, thereby luring the fish into striking. Once hooked, the fish can be reeled in as normal.

Delvo, if you're interested in learning how to improve or design a listening room, I can highly recommend two books by the late F. Alton Everest:

Acoustic Techniques for Home and Studio, ISBN: 0830616969
Master Handbook of Acoustics, ISBN: 0071360972

both published by TAB Books.

You don't need an advanced degree in science or engineering to understand them, they're very much woo-free, and they contain a lot of useful information for the DIYer on a modest budget.
