Default I feel soo dirty, and it's BAUTS fault!

Jeeze guys. One of the threads on here (actually, many of them IIRC) was referencing the book "We Never Went to the Moon" (and/or Dark Moon: Apollo and the Whistle Blowers). As I recall, it was a comment that one of the regulars that's been gone for a while had posted a less than supportive review of one of the books on Amazon.com. And since I went there to check it out, both books now show up as suggested material I might be interested in! Ack!

So thanks to you, the machine that is Amazon.com now thinks i'm a teenie-bopping HB'er! *pouts*

:-p

I have recorded a few shows by Kent Hovind, the young Earth creationist, just to hear it from the horses mouth so to speak. Now my Tivo thinks I'm a supporter and wants to record stuff like that. I gave it a bunch of "thumbs down", hope it gets the message.

Unfortunately no. A search history is much to big to store in a cookie file. Amazon stores that information in a database tied to his account name.

If he can't train the server with liberal use of the thumbs-down button, he'd have to create a new account in order to ditch the reference to Hovind.

Er... I think you mixed up posts, Thumbs down is a Tivo thing not related to Amazon.com. Tivo is a DVR if you didn't already know that.

Lol i'm not that desperate to dissasociate myself--I barely care what *people* think of me, let alone what a computer database thinks lol. It just kinda struck me as a slap in the face when I saw that this morning. Now, if it generated a popularity number to where being on my list made it look more appealing to another customer, then i'd take action. but it doesn't so i don't really care.

In Amazon, when you look at the "Recommendations" list, there is a check box for not interested and a five-star rating system, so you can modify the recommendations. I suspect however, that saying you're were not interested in those items would also downgrade your interest in other moon or space related stuff, but I'm not sure.

You can easily change your amazon recommendations by rating down that item. Or, if the moral implications do not bother you, you can click "I own it" and it won't show up anymore.

Just go look at a bunch of items you like on Amazon. Soon you'll find the recommendations you don't like are replaced by others.

I think Amazon also lets you rate the recommendations they give you. Have you tried giving the items you don't like a low rating?

Amazon's search history inspired recommendations aren't just limited to their recommendations. They also show up in some Amazon ad units.

True, but won't that mean he'll get every other woo text on the planet as a result?
