Default How do you say BAUT?

I was surprised to hear Phil's pronunciation of our favorite acronym in his recent video blog posting. How do you pronounce it?

I missed it--how did Phil say it?

Edit: Oh, yeah--99% of the time, I call it "the board."

just like baud on the good ole' modems. Rhymes with out, indeed. Or just like the last part of "about". That is option 2, I assume? Well, actually I give it a flat Flemish pronounciation on top of that.

(in my English, bought doesn't really rhyme with hot anyway )

Me, too. But do you say it like we Americans say "out" or like those Canadians say it?

Say what now? I don't think I've ever heard "baud" pronounced to rhyme with "out" - "baud" is more like "bawd" than "boud".

Isn't it?

Boo-hoo, languages.

Well, it's a baut as in out, but flat. I don't know how you pronounce baud, but it sounds like a flat b+out to me . Not like bawd .

Never mind

Well, I can almost hear Neil Young singing "Baut on the weekend"

Hum,
i thought it rhymed with the phrase "Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!"

But now that i think about it, it appears to sound more like "but"

Not that I ever say it, out loud.

I say it to myself in my head, when nobody else is listening; and in my head it is pronounced like naught

I say 'BAUT' like 'hot', or, more fitting, astronaut.

because "naught" is pronounced like "hot" (ish, slight "a" inflection, if that's the right word to describe it) and that's what the rest voted for

No, it's pronounced "nawt." Everyone else is just... wrong.
