I'm sure this has been asked here before, but a search of the forum just pulled up what looked like any thread that had a post from that date. :-P

Anyway, I alsways see down there where it says "Most users ever signed on was 9-whatever-hundred on 09-04-2005" which is significantly higher than what I normally see. Just wondered what caused this spike. Wasn't that around the time BA and UT merged? Just curious.

Default Planet X

It's because that was the day that Planet X finally cause the Earth to stop rotating and the poles to shift killing everyone.

(A big shout-out to the dolphins for fixing that mess)

As I recall, it was a forum glitch, but I don't remember specifics. And, yes, it was caused by the forum merge. (Or, a bit more accurately, a glitch in the new software, since neither board had previously used this partiuclar system.)

On the other hand, I don't recall a glitch. I remember a lot of users on. Most members received mail notification and in-forum warnings that the two forums were merging and I think a lot of people just showed up for the grand opening to see what it would look like.

Maybe all that fresh new content (or old content with new URLs) resulted in more spider bots in attendance, too, but I don't know if they have policies of swarming new stuff.

Oh, was there a slightly longer activity window at first? I.e., if two different users were actually on briefly 4 hours apart, would they be considered simultaneous? I faintly recall Fraser setting something downward around then. I'm not sure I'd call that a glitch so much as an ill-chosen option.

Edit: Yeah. Fraser set "cookie time" down from 1 day to 1 hour. RAF article in Topic Bug Bin that got Fraser looking

I think it was the day the forum was started. The count may be
the number of user names transferred into the new software from
one or the other or both of the old boards. I've complained about
the number twice in the "About BAUT" area. I suspect that Fraser
or whoever just doesn't know what to do to reset it, and has never
remembered to ask when talking with the software people.

Oh, now I see zero one's explanation...

But what about all those poor dogs? Were their lives lived in vain?
