I wrote a short story. I hope this is the right forum for it. It does, however, have a very small chance of actually being true.
The Martians, who evolved on Mars 4 billion years ago, gained intelligence which enabled them to survived Mar's reducing atmosphere have watch Earth for billions of years. The beginning, Earth, and Venus, looked much like Mars did. All three were blue worlds. Within a few hundred million years, Mar's atmosphere disappeared. They feared this was the case for Earth and Venus, however, it was not. As the millions of years became billions, not much changed on those two worlds. Other than Venus was getting brighter and brighter as more and more clouds began to form. Two billion years had passed. They never saw the surface of Venus again. Earth began to change. Instead of being a blue world, it started to turn a bit red. However, the ice started to march towards the equator. Earth was known as the "White Plant", very bright, brighter than Venus. This was, however, short in the long history of the Martian civilization. In a few hundred million years, the ice melted, revealing a new world, that was turning much more reddish. The Martians called this, "New Mars" or "Blue Mars" and they talked of colonizing this high gravity world, however, shortly after it turned red, the oceans began to turn green. Fearing that color, for it was a color they rarely saw and meant death, they abandoned all colonization ideas. Three billion years had passed and the ice, once more, marched towards the poles. This time, Earth had a ring, and the Martians called it the, "Ring World". As before, the ice retreated and the red/blue world was visible again. However, the green did not come back in the oceans. The Martians concluded that life must have been exterminated out by the ice. The Martians mourned the loss of life and those that said Martians should interfere with other life to help it survive were very vocal. Time passed, as it always does. About three and a half billion years had passed, the rings were gone and this time, there was a second sun, shone only for a brief while. Mars and the solar system was flooded by radiation. If life survived on the Red/Blue world, it would have surely died from that. Over three and a half billion years, the Red/Blue world began to develop patches of green, that stayed on one place on the world. Somehow, life had survived the ice and the supernova and now, it was living on the land. They watched the land life, drift as the continents moved towards one land mass. The red was going away and replaced by patches of green and yellowish dust. This was no longer the Red/Blue world, but the "World of Land and Sea", as was the contrast. Under four billion years had passed since the raise of the Martian Civilization. The World of Land and Sea, began become many smaller lands and seas. Then, for half a year, Earth began to shine brighter than Venus. Upon closer inspection, the Earth was covered in thick clouds. Eventually, the clouds faded to reveal a barren world with little green. However, that quickly changed as the green reached from pole to pole, where there was land. About four billion years had passed, nothing much changed on the Earth, except the ice started to march again. The Martians expected another bright ice covered earth, but the ice retreated long before it reached the equator. The ice did this again and again, as if teasing them. The Martians were simple creatures, all working for the good of the species. They didn't much interest in astronomy, poetry or any other task not related to survival. They've had telescopes for billions of years, but they only used them to observe for asteroid that might impact on their cities. Every so often, one would evolve curiosity look at Earth with those telescopes, sometimes, being punished for it. As they watched the ice retreat and stabilize, Earth began to emit radio signals. Lots of them. More than the sun. What strange event is causing this? It's not possible for the Blue World to create that. Upon closer examination, the signals were, coded, with a sort of "Singing" information. The Martians faced a horrific fact, another, alien civilization had evolved on Earth. They called them the "Singing Civilization". Some suggested that the Singing Civilization be exterminated, for fear they would do the same to the Martians. The Martians concluded that it was not in their place to so such a thing, so, they decided to hide. The dismantled their cities. Removed their canals and moved underground, deep underground. The removed all traces of their civilization, their presence on Mars. There, they will wait until the Singing Civilization is whipped out by another extinction event. What will the future hold for the Martians? Well, they expect the Singing Civilization to do as they do, build hives-like colonies and try to survive. It their utter nightmare, the Singing Civilization may try to colonize space and even their world. In a few centuries, about the lifespan of a Martian, an old Martian may defy the others and go to the surface. There, he may see a sort of haze around the sun, as that haze are millions of Singing Civilization space colonies. He might have trouble breathing, as the Martian air is heavier and filled with toxins to it. The Martian might notice Singing Civilization structures all round it. It might even see a member of the Singing Civilization in a protective suit. The old Martian will return underground, report what he saw, and the Martians will go deeper and deeper, even to the core. However, eventually, the Singing Civilization will find them. What will happen? The Martians will find a world, green and full of water, like the Blue world. The Blue World now is a world of lights and gray. They will have to adapt to a new environment, something they have not had to do for billions of years. Hopefully, the Singing Civilization will be wise and not exterminate them, but such things are inevitable.

For another view, I suggest you look up "Report on Planet Three" by Arthur C. Clarke.

Earth likely was not blue until one or two billion years ago. From Mars, Earth is now sometimes brighter than Venus, and appears larger about 60% of the time. Earth's Ice caps extended from the poles to about 45 degrees, so the torid zone and half of the North and South Temperate zones have been green even at the ice age maximums. Neil

There were two instances, of a suspected total glaciation, two BYA and 600MYA. I've also learn a bit more about Mars in the year since I wrote this. Mars was Earth-like for at least 800MY to 2BY after it was formed and for its size, had more water than Earth. On warm, stable Earth, it took 3.5BY for like to eventually evolve into multi-cellular organisms right after a period of total glaciation, so, since Mars experienced rather frequent glaciations, perhaps multi-cellular life was kick started very early on the Red World...and perhaps intelligent life made it to Earth and accidently contaminated Earth...
