Now all we need is Hitler's brain to put in one of those and we're off.

Careful with that, they're scary creatures.

I asked my friend why & he said "because of their reproductive strategy." I asked for an elaboration & was told something about the Y chromosome and how it is full of mutations.

I think it ties in with a book called "Adam's Curse" (not sure of author but I think his name is Sykes.) This is all about the Y chromosome and how for some reason the mutations aren't selected out and they just keep accumulating. This guy thinks eventually there won't be many males left.

(Hmmm... a mixed blessing! I guess that means no more beer cans on our lawn and muscle cars up & down the street??)
And of course that means there won't be a lot of reproduction happening among the affected species!

Anyway, apparently non-mammalians don't HAVE a Y chromosome. Sex selection is determined some other way.

Personally I think it's bull. Mammals seem to have evolved the most sophisticated brains and means of locomotion, also they have the most advanced metabolism, as evidenced by their 4-chambered heart and specialized teeth for extracting the most nutrition from their food (which is why they were able to evolve such a high metabolism plus warm-bloodedness.) To my mind, mammals are the best equipped to survive, unless you're talking about a major catastrophe where only the bacteria and sponges survive.

hay, what's wrong with muscle cars and Harleys?

I would agree with you. Now, if we refine that to just 'man', I'd say it is a possibility. Ingoring the possibility that we'll do ourselves in, I've heard from a couple geneticists who point out that one of the more significant differences between our DNA and that of a chimpanzee is that a chimp has a lot more 'garbage' in his DNA. They seem to think this is not only indicative of a species that's been around longer, but that it also indicates that the species has encountered and overcome more diseases. Human DNA, on the other hand, is apparently rather 'clean', leaving the way open for all maner of unpleasantness.

One thing mammals would not survive is a reduction in the oxygen levels. Dinos (and then birds) evolved a highly efficient oxygen exchange system to cope with massive oxygen depletion at the end of the Permian. If such a thing were to happen again, the mammals would go bye bye. At least the K-selectors. Maybe the mice would survive.

If I remember correctly, the scientist on that show said that the mammals die out because of the stress we put on them.

The Walking With Dinos guys didn't do that. They did do Primeval though, for which they should be strung up and whipped repeatedly.

Whoever says "perception is reality" is daft. It's merely an abstraction, and often not a very good one.
