Kasumi could out-chatter any six siamese, so I'm still way ahead in that department.

They're definitely opinionated. I am aware of the breed's general traits, good and bad, and one of my friends' parents have had no fewer than four since I've known them. All are wonderful cats. It's a big reason why I admire the breed so much. If I can find some.

Still, I may well end up just polling the local SPCAs as I usually end up doing. There are three that I know of within an hour's drive. On principle, I'd rather adopt suitable cats who genuinely need homes than cause yet more to be brought into the world unnecessarily.

D was feral. His mother was squished in the road in front of my friend's mother's house, and they took him in when he was a little tiny kitten.

We've had (at least) two cats in our house since shortly after we married.

The BW was at the hair shop, so I spent some time browsing the mall. I went into a pet store and this somewhat scrawny grey-and-white tabby kitten yowled at me from his cage; when I got closer, he reached out for me.

Instant bond.

He became part of the family, just like the two kids who followed. After a while, we got a second cat, a black-and-white. (She was supposed to be a male, but...)

The male cat (Tigger... same personality) taught all his tricks to the female (Tommi... started out as Tom - see above). When we had to have Tigger put down, Tommi was carrying on the traditions he had established.

Now, Tommi is "training" the new grey-and-white, Wiley. And the tradition goes on.

Moose, have you seen the Siamese Cat Rescue center? We've adopted two cats through them (only one still with us).

It's a mostly nation-wide organization. The main headquarters is in Virginia, but they have a transport organization that will drive cats about anywhere. They also have centers in Texas, So. California, and Colorado (I think). You're in the Maritimes (Canada), right? That may be too far, but you could check them out and find out details. The cats they have are often found abandoned or rescued from breeders.

Click on "Pick a rescue" to visit specific centers.

Take care,

Yup, thanks, I'm aware of them. They're a bit too far away to reasonably drive an already likely troubled cat and importing cats into Canada isn't a trivial (or inexpensive) endevour. Although it's nowhere near as tough on the animal as trying to bring a cat into the UK.

Apparently an acquaintance of mine's parents have a new litter and their other cat is also preggers as well. (And yes, I disapprove strongly of letting cats breed indiscriminately like that, but I'm not the boss of them.) So I may well adopt two of their kittens when they're weened. The timing should work out, and I'll be able to meet most of my "shopping" requirements if I end up wanting to bother being picky. If I do take this route, both kittens will be "fixed" just as soon as its safe and appropriate to do so.

I understand and respect your concerns.. they HAVE transported coast to coast and the cats have done fine, but if you have a local cat (or cats) in need, that's great. Wasn't aware of "import" issues related to cats in Canada...

CJSF

P.S.
I mean great that you can help them, not great that they are in need.

Sorry Moose. I too know how you feel.

When our beloved Snow White passed away about 12 years ago, I was prepared to wait a while before getting a replacement. My wife, however, had fairly recently stopped working outside the home and noticed the absence much more.
One weekend she asked if we could go to a cat show. She spent the drive to Seattle discussing the relative merits of Birmans versus Ragdolls. Finally I said, "Honey, we can't get a cat today. We don't have a carrier to take it home safely."

"It's in the trunk."

At that point I realized it wasn't a matter of if, just which one. About a month later we wound up with two more.

Good for you! I've never had a pregnant cat in my life--or a cat capable of getting another cat pregnant, since almost all of mine, now I stop to think about it, have been males. D, who is asleep on my legs as I write this (it's amazing how heavy kitties get when they're asleep, isn't it?), was fixed before I got him, and he's always been an indoor cat.

There's every reason to fix a cat and almost no reason not to. (And that one's very much arguable, and I'm not standing on that side of the argument anyway.)

Besides, I'm not listening to Bob Barker nag me for another 33+ years.
