A plane landing in New Zealand heard and reported sonic booms from debris falling from the sky. It was thought to be a Russian satellite coming down, but apparently that satellite hadn't been brought down by that time. NASA is thinking meteor fragments.

OK so there's a bit of confusion as to what was happening the last days. We can take out an unknown russian sat; it wasn't that and thy meant the progress anyway. So that means most probably the plane did see a meteor indeed, and the progress landed just fine. What remains is the somalia case. I doubt it's a satellite there, even SpaceX Demosat, because why on earth (reversed pun intended) would a satellite need lamps and audible sound production on its body? That is, assumin the reports are correct and it indeed did have lights and audible voices coming out of it.

Does anybody want to tell me where the main discussion on this is?
HERE? (mentioned but possibly different) HERE? (looks like it was explained) HERE? (discussion went nowhere, but it's only a few threads away)

Merge 'em all in space and astronomy. All means:
Somalia thing, aircraft sighting, Progress return. So th ones you listed. They are all interrelated AFAIK. I mean their discussions are, as all happened at the same moment and we didn't know which event was which object, hence they were all discussed in all threads. OK the merged thread will be a mess. Beautiful .SpaceX "may try again this weekend" (I love that title, it makes it appear as if they try to send rockets into space every week like madmen ) best stays a separate thread, as it's very cleanly on topic for spaceX launches only.
