Reportedly, the sound originates from around Taos, New Mexico

I'll have to use that one some time.

Back to the OP, I'd probably go for the 1st movement of Brahms' 4th Symphony

Only for that middle ground. Any style guide telling you to italicize the titles of songs is wrong.

Good day: "Procession of the Nobles", Rimski-Korsakov

Normal day: "Entrance of the Gladiators", Fucik

I admire Maksutov. My ability with classical music is limited. As a kid I thought 'Rimski' was his first name.

Always been partial to those opening chords of the Stones' "Under My Thumb", before the vocal begins.

That's horrible.

All those repeated phrases, meaningless scale-wise progressions, and scales and more scales. Anyone who has Tchaikovsky (especially his 1812 Underwear ) stuck in their head has my sympathy.

I firmly know if that melodic, tortured, homosexual fellow had been born a century later, he would have raked in millions by writing simple songs with accompaniment (homophony). After all, that's what his music consists of. Polyphony was beyond him, and lord help him if he attempted any kind of a fugue. Those few pieces where he tried to do so are unmitigated disasters.

Two insightful quotes are appropriate here:

Mahler to the orchestra while rehearsing a Tchaikovsky "symphony" (they're actually "suites" rather than real symphonies; Scheherazade is more symphonic than anything old Piotr pieced together) (this quote is from what's left of my memory):
Quote:
See that, gentlemen? That's isn't "symphony", that's "opera"! Just a tune with accompaniment.
Charles Ives re Tchaikovsky (from memory, too):
Quote:
We know that butter comes from cream, but how long must we watch the "churning arm"!

My song would have to be...

"Sympathy For The Devil", by the Rolling Stones

or "Sorrow" by Pink Floyd

I like Tchaikovsky, and I've played it before. At Carnegie Hall, when I was fourteen. It's better than Wagner, isn't it? (Tell me you believe it's better than Wagner!)

Okay. Let's see, here.

"Out Here on My Own," Fame soundtrack
"Save Me," Magnolia soundtrack
"Don't Let It Bring You Down," American Beauty soundtrack (so much better than her song for LOTR)
"Brian Wilson," Barenaked Ladies
"Brick," Ben Folds 5
"Trouble," Cat Stevens (before he went fundamentalist)
"Mysterious Woman," Christine Lavin
"Neon Blue," Due South soundtrack
"Ariel," October Project
"Perfect Moment," Art Garfunkel (yes, really!)
"Slip-Slidin' Away," Paul Simon
"Comfortably Numb," Pink Floyd
"Finishing the Hat," Sunday in the Park with George soundtrack

And, according to Graham, his favorite--the only song I can get him to state he really likes--and therefore "our song," "Kiss from a Rose," Seal, Batman Forever soundtrack.

I like them both. I can live without Berg and Webern, just watch me!

I'm going to go with the all-Transformers lineup.

"Dare" by Stan Bush will be my entrance music.
"The Touch" by Stan Bush will be my loving music.
"Dare to be Stupid" by Weird Al will be my action music. You know, just because.

On Hallowe'en one year, I went as the Macho Man Randy Savage, so I carried a tape recorder that played entrance music before entering any room. A friend of mine went as Hulk Hogan, and he did the same. We happened to have a class together, and I sort of hit him with a chair when he came in, then gave him an elbow drop. So entrance music is not always a good idea.
