Default Report on Partial Solar Eclipse - Sun Earth Day 2007

As a part of NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS 2007 with kind support of RVSP, Govt of India and Andhra Pradesh State Council of Science and Technology (APCOST) in association with our organization ie. Planetary Society, India organized various activities in view of for “Partial Solar Eclipse” on 19th March, 2007 and Vernal Equinox on 21st March, 2007.

Objective of the Programmes:
1. The major aim of the programmes was to create scientific awareness regarding celestial events
2. To eradicate superstitions attached to celestial events like eclipse.
3. To promote scientific temper among general public and inspire the future scientist among the student community.

Gist of activities in brief :-

1. Seminar on Partial Solar Eclipse on 18th March, 2007 at two different venues.
a. DRS Kids CEE Center, Baghamberpet b. D.A.V. Public School, Safilguda
(Find enclosed Report No.1 attached)

2. Reflected Image Observation of “Partial Solar Eclipse” on 19th March, 2007 from 5.30 a.m to 8.00 a.m at Open Ground in front of Department of Astronomy, O.U. (Find enclosed Report No.2 attached)

3. Sun Earth Day Seminar on 21 March, 2007 at two different venues.
a. Geetha School, Patancheru b. B.D.L.D.A.V. School, Bhanoor
(Find enclosed Report No.3 attached)

4. Specially Compiled CD and Media Kit:
a. Media Kit Containing animations and other Details of Partial Solar Eclipse were sent to Print and Electronic Media.
b. Sent to Various District participants of Sarva Sikhsa Abhiyan Participants
c.Sent to Field officers for organizing the above programmes in various districts.
d.Copy to Director, S.C.E.R.T, District Collector, Rangareddy and Hyderabad

5. Website: a special website for the benefit of general public has been created. Students/ people can download various animations, power points along with other info. Importantly one can witness “Partial Solar Eclipse” using live footage of eclipse as recorded on 19th March, 2007 http://eclipseaware.blogspot.com/ .
