At what point would the actuaries start to notice that life-spans, which have risen continuously for the last 100 years, were starting to decline? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18220221/

I very much doubt they will see a decline in life-spans. People will go to doctors and pay large amounts of money to have crud hoovered out of their bodies to keep them alive a few more years longer. Now people take pills to lower cholesterol, soon they will have pills that stop them getting fat and problably pills that make them enjoy exercise. Basically people will use money to live longer.
Mind you, I'm assuming there won't be a disaster caused by a crazy mass murderer with the right lab equipment. |

The brain remembers every single second of our lives. the only reason we can't access all this information is due to way the brain stores things. The reason remembering stuff gets fuzzy over time is due to us mixing up our memories over time. when seeing something familiar we don't remember just one event, but all the events associated with this person or object. There are some methods for doing a total recall, but these are often unreliable. I had a study technique once that entailed the use of self hypnosis. By going into a "study trance" i could read up before an important test, and pass with flying colors. a very useful tool for me at least. haven't done it in a very long time tough. I don't need that good a memory in daily life anyway, and it has some disturbing bi-effects. ![]() Another note on self hypnosis is that you can use it to consciously alter your personality and fears in useful ways. The effect wears of after a day or so, and permanent changes is not possible. but hey. a temporary cure for fear against flying is quite useful if you have this fear, and really just have to take a trip on an airplane. back to the topic at hand.

I for one wouldn't mind not having a "best-if-used-before" date stamped on my head. Some people I talk to look at me with horror when I talk about the advancements in age retardation. "I don't wanna live a thousand years, no way!" Then I usually give them the same look they just gave me.
I wouldn't mind living even a million years... I love seeing the advancements we make day by day. I'd give anything to do the same as long as possible. |
