Default Miss America, armed and dangerous.

This is why the 2nd Amendment exists. Stop crying and pack heat.

And once again gun machismo rears its ugly head.

Hmm, yes. Is theft really justification for threatening to kill somone?

Oooh, that's a bit political. I'll stop there.

Doodler is dead on (pardon the pun). Great find!

Dr Nigel,

*theft* is not justification for threatening to kill somebody (though laws in some states make it legal). But then, Mrs. Ramey didn't do that, did she? She shot out the tires on the idjits' car - an act that was perfectly justified as the only way she could detain the lawbreaker until the police arrived.

I say, good on her!

I congratulate the former Ms. America for boldly exercising her second amendment right and leaving one less societal menace free to threaten others.

Yes, she did. She said that if they'd come toward her, she'd've shot them. She didn't say she'd've shot them if they came toward her in a threatening manner, though I suppose, at that age, it's hard to tell if people are threatening you or not, because you're awfully fragile.

And, in fact, the Second Amendment was probably intended to help you defend your home from the British, which she assuredly wasn't doing.

tsk tsk - no, she said, after the fact, that she'd have done that. There's nothing in the story that explicity indicates she'd threatened him.

In fact, it was intended for far more than that. I don't see anything that she did that was inconsistent with its purpose.

This is definitely the sort of thing that would make someone think twice about invading property and attempting to steal.

The Second Amendment also allows states the option of rising up against the federal government. Remember that when the US government was formed, a lot of the states were wary of a centralized authority. If they wanted an army to enforce their individual wills, they wanted it at the ready.

That is certainly a possibility. What's your point?

I took it as a comment on a positive example of private gun use.

It means stop crying (i.e., whimpering, sobbing, gnashing one's teeth, wailing, feeling sorry for one's self) and carry a gun.

Nice to read a story that didn't include

So only crying people and not everyone or everyone?

No, it's universal advice.

PS: Don't tell MGM (or is that Sony?).

Well that shouldn't be difficult. They can be made out of stamped metal so it should cost less than $50 a head to supply everyone with a cheap gun. There could be a tempory increase in taxes, a gun levy, to cover the cost.

OK, now we're on the right track!
