my question is.. why bother? GPS works fine. If you have sufficient processing power (and it doesn't take that much) you can place yourself within a meter or so. Adding 6 satellites won't change that..
This sounds like a great deal of pig parts in a large ovoid container. |

So far, there's four systems of which I'm aware that do precisely the same thing.
Why? What bragging rights could the EU, Russia, and Asia hope to gain by very expensively attempting to duplicate GPS, which was born of, and funded by Cold War expenditures which are no longer available, even to the US? That's just pride and prejudice hanging on, when instead, we should be examining both cost-spreading as well as targeting various needs for the system throughout the world. Only this is cooperation. Anything else is like trying to send bottle rockets to the Moon on Jan 1, 1970. It's a self-deceptive attempt to retain face while throwing what little is left in a country's coffers much like encouraging a bloodhound to run down a grayhound. Please grow up a bit, peoples of the world, and let things go. Instead, let's begin doing a bit more cooperating so as to help all of us meet all of our needs. Thanks. - Mugs.

I've been wondering about that myself. Perhaps "parochialism" might be the word Doodler was searching for? If so he could ask a moderator to change the thread title.
